おひさしぶりです。

I realized recently that I will not be able to keep up with this LJ as much as I want to. Too many things happen... even small things. Things you might find interesting.

I have even fallen behind on my written journal. *sigh*

I got my first cold in Japan, last week. Just before Halloween (my favorite holiday). Nice timing, right? I still did everything I planned to do though, because I am unstoppable. I taught all 6 classes - in costume! The kids were either frightened or loved it.. or both. It was fantastic. All the 3rd year boys (9th graders) think I am awesome now. Nice.

Despite being a totally medicated and miserable mess, I made the effort to do "Halloween mystery boxes", ya know, the game where you reach your hand into some box/bowl and describe what it feels like.. or its "eyes" or "intestines" or whatever. This was a HUGE hit with the students. For starters, I didn't tell them at all what was in the boxes. I had about 10 students feel inside and describe how it felt (in Japanese). Lots of kids were freaked out. Then at the end I told them what was in the boxes (followed by Japanese translation). The four boxes were: maggots, worms, brains and eyeballs.

It was hilarious to watch the students who had put their hands in the box... IMMEDIATELY freak out! They all put their hands as far away from their own body as the could. They all shook their hands wildly or wiped them on a classmate. It was the funniest thing ever. The kids who didn't put their hands in the box.. they pointed and laughed at the kids who did.

Then.. I asked the students if they wanted to know what was REALLY in the box. Some students were keen and guessed what the first 3 were, pretty easily. Maggots = cooked rice, worms = udon, brains = tofu. Only once (out of 4 classes that did this) guessed what the "eyeballs" were. Eyeballs = peeled grapes. He won a prize.

Anyway... my cold symptoms have more or less disappeared..except one. I haven't had my voice in 4 days. I sound all froggy.

I am excited to work tomorrow, because I get to watch the live poll results of the presidential election! WOO!
