Author's Note: Cute, fluffy, Christmas fic for chicafrom3. Merry (obscenely early) Christmas!

"If I’m dreaming again, I’m going to be very angry," she said out loud, burrowing deeper under the covers and curling her legs up underneath her. It could very well be a dream. After all, it had started out being a horrid Christmas what with Chuck and Ned being as snuggly as two people who couldn’t touch could be and Emerson declaring himself the Grinch and refusing to engage in anything holiday-related that didn’t somehow involve solving cases and putting more money in his pocket.

And then, somehow, when she thought she was doomed to spend Christmas Eve holed up alone in her apartment watching cheesy Christmas cartoons and drinking cocoa (she had politely refused Chuck’s offer of the whole group going caroling around town- Emerson, included, since he was being lied to about the whole thing and wouldn’t be aware of what he had gotten himself into until it was too late) , he showed up like he hadn’t been gone for the past month. It was the sort of thing that happened in old movies, not in real life, but she’d embraced the situation and now here they were, drinking cocoa together and watching Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on cable.... Together.

"If you’re dreaming, then I am too," Alfredo smiled. "Although, I kind of hope we aren’t dreaming, because you can wake up from a dream, and I’ve been doing that far too often this past month."
She rested her head on his chest, not quite certain she felt such a familiar gesture would be appropriate in this situation. It was too familiar, too romantic, and she and Alfredo were really nothing more than friends, a few fantasies she’d seen played in her head a few times, be damned. "Why’d you come back?"
"Despite the fact that the holidays are an extremely depressing time for certain people, I felt that even a traveling salesman such as myself has to come home for Christmas. Unfortunately, I never quite invested in a home, because it was sort of pointless for a traveling salesman to have one.... So I came here. Close enough, really. They say home is where your heart is and... Well..." He coughed nervously, as if he wasn’t sure he wanted to say what was on his mind, but finally, it just sort of spilled out, "...My heart is with you."

She craned her neck to look him in the face. "You shouldn’t say things like that unless you mean them."

"I would never say anything like that unless I meant it from the deepest part of my heart," he replied sincerely.

She bit her lip and turned back to the television, although she wasn’t really watching it. Some traditional Christmas carol was playing in the background of the show and Alfredo started to sing along softly, although loudly enough for her to catch the pleasantness of the sound. She wouldn’t have guessed someone as quiet and sensible (in the most endearing way possible) as Alfredo would have a voice like that.

Without really thinking, she joined in and soon they were both singing together- louder now- allowing their voices to harmonize together in a way that sent chills down Olive’s spine. It was like that little orchestra in her heart was being joined by another, completely different, orchestra and together they were performing a symphony fit for the grandest of stages.

When the song faded and they both stopped singing, they found themselves staring into each others’ eyes. "I didn’t know you could sing," Olive whispered.

"I didn’t know you could," he responded back, his voice also a whisper. He paused. "Why are we whispering?"

"Why are we talking?" She asked before she planted her lips on his in a deep, passionate kiss that was better than any fantasy brought upon by her overactive imagination and certainly lasted longer too, with no cruel reality to break it up for this was the reality, for once.

That was the best Christmas present anyone could ever give her- a moment of real bliss just like this that was hers and hers alone and not borrowed vicariously or summoned from the furthest reaches of her mind. Just one perfect moment all her own.

And it was perfect.
