Author's Note: More Multifandom 100 Challenge drabble-ness. This is me protesting the fact that my ship has probably sunk. *sings "White Flag" at the top of her lungs.
This was... Unexpected.
She had believed her life would consist purely of the ennui of boring, average, lower class society, and that visiting a teahouse where a cute boy worked would be the highlight of her young life. And then the war came to Ba Sing Se, the one place there was no war, and she found herself fearing every second for her life up until he came back and saved her. And she had wanted to hate him for lying to her, for being a prime example of everything she had feared, but you just can’t hate the man who saved your life.
He visited her far more often than a young Fire Lord should, claiming he was working on post-war diplomatic negotiations with the Earth Kingdom, but unless what the pair of them did in her bedroom after she’d urged him coquettishly upstairs could be considered some type of diplomacy, very little negotiating was being done on that front.
And then he asked her to be his lady and she said yes, because she didn’t know what else a poor peasant girl who had never had anything and was suddenly offered everything could say at a moment like that.
It had been unexpected, but now that she was here, standing in the palace and understanding that it was just as much hers as it was his and that even if she didn’t have this, she had him, she realized that it was more than just that.
It was perfect.
