Hello again livejournal! Shit, I thought you left us long ago, but you've hung in there, like a barnacle on Billie Joe Armstrong's taint. At first I thought, "how in the hell is this still a thing?" but then I started reading my old entries and realized that I had the time of my life on this site, just as Billie Joe hoped. I don't know if I was funnier back then or if the web was less serious. Or maybe it was simply because only my close friends were reading that I felt unfettered and more open to write whatever I wanted without fear of offending and being put on blast. Maybe I am partly dipping into the nostalgia pool, to a bygone golden era of the web (when memes weren't known by every person ever within 10 seconds and dead after 20) and people actually put some thought into their posts rather than rehashing the same shit that everyone else posts, but maybe it's just time to move on everybody. Get off of facebook. I have tried to leave it before only to return reluctantly a year later with my tail betwixt my legs so I know its hard, there is a lot of convenience there because, well, EVERYONE is on it. But if we all just rip the band-aid off quickly maybe we will realize how much festering has actually been going on in the wound zuckerburg has created on our collective psyche. Its hard to see since the shift has been gradual and we've been on the site for so long, but look at LJ...it has aged gracefully. LJ is still the same solid, clean, unobtrusive bro while FB has grown into an Orwellian nightmare. LJ has remained true to its self, while FB has sold out again and again slipping ever further into a soul-less void and taking us with it. Anyway, its worth a shot and if anything, its been long enough that at least some ironic gold can be mined. I just wish I remembered who some of these crossed out usernames belonged to. Reactivate everyone and welcome back!
