Chapter Four.

Tiffany was just suddenly there. Jong Hyun didn't ask for, didn't even really want her. But she was there. She started meeting him after work and walking him home. Jong Hyun had to admit that he liked having someone with him. He hated being alone.

It felt like he was back in time two years ago, back when they were dating, when they're so close to be in love. It's different when you are in love and when you're almost. It's scary to almost be in love and it's exciting. Fear is one of the most exciting things a person could ever experience.

It was the fifth day when Tiffany tried to hold his hand. Jong Hyun let her because it felt nothing short of natural to him. There was no point in thinking as they walked home.

Jin Ki hated seeing her. It was understandable - Jong Hyun understood it so completely. He couldn't understand why he didn't hate seeing her. Or maybe he did. It was hard to tell. Jong Hyun never thought much around her - only did his best to keep breathing.

When they entered the apartment, Key was dancing and Jin Ki was making dinner. It was a rare treat when Jin Ki cooked. He was easily the best cook out of the three, but he was also the most busy and so they rarely had anything made by him. Jin Ki wished he hadn't cooked - he didn't want Tiffany to touch anything he had done.

"You can go now," Jin Ki said as he walked past, over to the table, three plates in hand. He didn't bother trying to hide his detest. After Tiffany had cheated on Jong Hyun, Jin Ki went and yelled at her, trying to understand why she had done it. But that was a secret that only her and Jong Hyun knew. One that Jong Hyun wanted taken to the grave.

"I'll see you later," Tiffany said with a grin, her eyes glaring sideways at Jin Ki. There were so many mixed emotions that flooded in and out of her. She was mad at Jin Ki, mad at herself. She was helplessly in love with Jong Hyun - a feeling that had never once left her, not even for a second. And she was so worried for him - a worry that made her worry like nothing in her life ever had.

"Did I ever tell you I missed you?" she asked, hanging in the doorway. Her hands were shaking; she didn't try to distinguish if it was from the cold or from her cold thoughts. Jong Hyun shook his head no. "Well, I did. I was stupid. I really was. But thank you for letting me be here, even if the only thing I can touch his your hand. You always had soft hands."

A small smile played across Jong Hyun's face as he closed the door, as she walked away. He, too, was filled with so many emotions that he didn't know what to do with them. Every once in awhile he would wish that they would just go away. He hated it, but sometimes he was so sure that feelings were the one thing that was tying him down.

Jin Ki always said it was Tiffany.

Jessica hated the girl that held Jong Hyun's hand. She never talked to her. The girl never once looked over at her. Jessica felt betrayed and alone. She was scared that every boy she ever even thought about liking would just leave her, fast as can be.

Each day she would watch them leave, hands locked. Sometimes they would overhear what they were saying. "Is Jin Ki going to be there tonight? You know how much he hates me." "Have you seen Tae Yeon lately? I haven't talked to her in so long. Is she still hosting that radio show?" "You're too nice for your own good, Jong Hyun."

The last line past through her mind over and over again. He had been so nice, so perfect for one night. What was it - a one night stand minus the sex? Was that all she was ever going to be to him? Did he not think of her every second that they were at work, so close that Jessica could smell his cologne?

Jessica hated it. She hated him. She hated herself. It was a rare thing for Jessica to detest the very skin she was in, but all she wanted was to be held with his. But as the saying goes you always want what you can't have.

Jessica, however, wasn't going to give up that easily. It simply wasn't how she worked. As they were leaving, Jessica ran over Jong Hyun and smiled at him. "Hey," she whispered.

"Hey," he whispered back, his voice smaller than hers. He knew that in about five seconds he would run into Tiffany and he was afraid of the thought. Tiffany was easy to get along with (unless you were Jin Ki) and there was nothing wrong with Jessica. But the thought of them together worried him for reasons he couldn't exactly place.

"How have you been?" she asked, her voice gaining power with each word she said. They were still weak, still scared, but they were getting there.

"My throat hurts," he said. It sounded fine to Jessica, but she wasn't going to call him on his bluff. "But I've been well. My roommate doesn't seem to want to let me sleep though. He plays his music way too long into the night."

Jessica found herself laughing, even though a part of her was sure it was a lie. She wanted to believe him, though, she always did. There was something in her that was so easily connected to Jong Hyun. Part of her was his and she wanted it back.

"Can't you just ask him to turn it off?" Jong Hyun laughed at that as they rounded the corner. He spotted Tiffany but was laughing so much that he didn't wave or try and say anything to her.

"Key doesn't listen to me, no matter what I do or say. He's really into dancing and I think he physically doesn't know how to stop."

Jessica laughed again. "I completely know where you're coming from. My best friend Hyo dances all the time. She's really good at it, though. Sometimes I think that the two us should have tired out for one of the entertainment companies."

Right as Jong Hyun was about to ask what she did, Tiffany said, "Don't bother. I was a trainee at SM for three years. Worst time ever. "

"Really?" Jessica asked, her eyes wide. "My sister's there right now and she loves it, says it's the best thing she has ever done."

"Who's your sister?"

"Krystal."

"You're Krystal's sister?" And the two girl's launched into a frenzy of words, most of which Jong Hyun didn't listen to. To be honest, he didn't care about Jessica's younger sister. He wanted to hold Tiffany's hand, go home, yell at Key, and fall asleep where he would dream about Jessica. It was a terrible life, but it was all he had.

But Jong Hyun let them talk, even though so much of him knew he shouldn't have. If they hated each other it would have been so much easier. But friends, friends are terrible thing to mess with.
