Something minor.
More of the same posturing on how the US needs to retain its strengths in scientific research. It's getting old. To be frank, the nutbags on the left think that science and technology just further separates humanity from nature, while the nutbags on the right think that science and technology just further separates humanity from God. Hey, wait a minute.... I would say more, but the entire topic just irritates the hell out of me. The American public clearly does not care that much, so I say "fine, whatever." Mostly, I am figuring that in the end, I will not be doing research in the US in the long run since other places seem more inclined to pay better and let me go rewire bacteria to do awesome stuff, do fundamental physical chemistry/chemical physics that somehow has never gotten around to being done, and so on.
