Blech. Yeah, the death penalty deters murderers. Just like jail time deters all other crimes. Oh...wait...our jails are full beyond their capacity...I guess deterants just don't quite work too well, do they?

Yea...nope not at all. But it's what people believe. And elected officials spouting off hese "facts" aren't going to change minds, are they?

My understand of this is that if you are willing to kill an armed and trained cop you are more dangerous to society as a whole and your crime is more seriously, though most of the time I can't help thinking that you are more dangerous to me if you kill a bystander. That may be cynical, I hate the concept of death penalty ( ... )

See, that was something that I have always felt too. Any cop that takes the job knows the risk. I don't understand why that life is more precious than a driveby where a six year old is killed from a stray bullet. Or a father of four is killed in a robbery. But we think a cop's life is more important than an innocent person.

Point is, I am right there with your line of thought.
