Here's my attempt.

"Detective Crocker, what exactly were you and Lieutenant Kojak doing in the alley?" PD Dawlish sneered at Bobby.

"Tracking a murderer."

"Your Honor!"

"Detective Crocker! You know better than that."

"I apologize, your Honor. We were tracking a suspected murderer."

"What did you find?"

"A ladder and a stepstool beneath the window of the murdered social-worker. Your client's fingerprints were everywhere."

"My client claims you decided to undertake the task of trying to railroad him into confessing to the murder. Whereas, he was the one who found the deceased."

Bobby sighed silently; it was going to be a long afternoon.

The words were awkward to fit together this week, but you did very well. This is a believable scene.
