A lovely clear, bright, and crisp morning in the Foothills. There are times when you want things to be perfect and they aren’t. You must hang your head and accept things as they are. Then there are days when you are willing to take the day as it unfolds and it couldn’t be more perfect. That was yesterday.
After seeing a lackluster performance of "I Do, I Do," we drove up to Sutter Creek to spend a couple of nights there. We got the same room as two weeks early, so I have a place to sit and relax that isn't the bathroom floor. You don't know how happy that made my back.
Saturday started out with a bit of a strike as I started my period after a couple of months of happiness. Boo hiss, but, okay, life happens. So we decided to drive in to Jackson (about ten minutes away) to give down town a check out. On the way in we saw this metalwork store - how do you resist a store with a ten foot chicken out front? I know I can't. Inside, we found a mess of other things, including flags (we got a new Hawaiian flag to replace the one we took to Hawaii to retire) and a lovely print. Then on to Jackson where the multitude of antique stores made for a happy, if not altogether cheap, morning.
Then we drove over to Safeway and grabbed some stuff for lunch - Chris went soup and sandwich, I went sushi and edamame and drove up to Morse Winery. We were delighted that there were folks there enjoying the place (you HAVE to want to go there, it's way heck and gone down a dirt road). We had lunch under an oak tree and then played some Bocce Ball. Then it was back to the hotel for some rest and *um* relaxation...
At five we were at Taste for dinner and the place was packed to the gills - always a lovely sign. This time, I had a Caesar salad, while Chris did the mozzarella with watermelon radishes. He had tomato soup, then I had the duck breast and he had the lamb - WOW, so, so good. I brought in a bottle that I'd gotten at the winery, so favorite restaurant with favorite wine. What could be better?
Wait, I know, how about some ABBA? Muy bien. We got back to Sutter Creek in plenty of time to walk to the concert. The night was mild, but not blisteringly hot. The theatre was small, but not stuffy. There was about 3/4 of a full house, so there were places to dance. We ended up right in front of the stage (off to one side though) and just had a ball. Probably this place had the best acoustics I've heard and Gro was in fabulous voice.
Then came the walk home. We were just wandering along, commenting on how lovely the night was when I noticed that an oncoming vehicle was oncoming pretty damn fast. Chris grabbed me and we sprinted for a front yard just as the car went off the road, roared back us and smashed into the back of a brand new (wait for it) Jag... The driver was very, very 'relaxed' from visit to a local bar and kept insisting that everything was fine... right, sure it was. She even tried to drive off, but a local pulled up behind her so she couldn't. We had to stick around for the police report - quite the finish to a big day.
Hmmm, I wonder what we'll do today...?
abba,
