I've slacked off a bit on the writing front again. Mostly, it's because I'm on clinicals again, but it also has a lot to do with the fact that my minds been filled to the brim with about a thousand other things lately...
1. Grad Year.. As I already mentioned in my last post I got a position in one of my city's major hospitals. It's kind of still sinking in, but the lead up to the day the results came out (the 20th) was hell on my nerves. Lots of people still missed out on positions and I was sending myself spare quietly fretting over it. I think I drove the majority of my friends and family mad with my whinging :P. Thankfully that's all over now and I can relax :D
2. Finishing Uni. That's right finishing! I don't have any exams this semester, so when I finish clinicals this friday, aside from 2 assignments due the following week that's it! Again, totally exciting! At the same time, though, the desire to slack off on the work that's left is almost overwhelming. I'm so over studying its not funny. With the end in sight, it's hard not to say 'to hell with it' and just hand in substandard work. I hate handing in work that's not my best though, and I have to pass if I want to keep my position for next year, so slacking of isn't really an option, even though technically I only have a week and a bit to go! *does happy dance*
3. My Dog. Finally, on a more serious note, at about 8:00pm Sunday evening (the 19th) my dog randomly had a seizure. And I'm talking about a grand mal, full-body convulsing seizure. I wasn't home at the time, but I came home to be informed he was at the hospital and that they didn't have any idea what was wrong with him. Understandably, I was devastated. This was the day before my grad year results came out, and the night before I had an assignment due that I was yet to finishthat needed some fine tuning. The vet that looked at him, however, said not to worry too much as any dog can have a seizure once in their life without cause for alarm, but if it were to happen again within the next month to seek medical treatment for him asap.
Odd behaviour is common after that type of episode, so when he came home he was acting a little strangely, but was otherwise okay. We were all pretty relieved that he was okay. That was until about 5am the following morning when he had another one. It was seriously the most horrible thing I have ever seen. I've seen humans having seizures (patients I've looked after) but seeing my dog go through it was horrific. It's lasted quite a while, his little body was convulsing almost violently and he was foaming out the mouth and making choking sounds.... As soon as the vet opened doors that morning we took him down there to get checked over again. He hasn't been diagnosed with anything, but they think he might have epilepsy, especially since there have been other smaller signs that wouldn't have otherwise been picked up that lent weight to that diagnosis. He's on anticonvulsants now, twice a day for the rest of his life, but otherwise pretty much back to his usual self.
So yeah, life for me has been pretty busy of late. I've also got my 21st coming up which I'm trying to plan for. I'm thinking that it's best if I put it off until uni's finished for the year...
I have a partially written chapter of All My Family that I hope to spend some time on tomorrow, but I doubt I'll have an update before November. *fingers crossed*
