WILD Preparation and 30 Days of Music: Day 30

Jul 06, 2010 19:07

I ventured into the town centre today to see if I could find anything vaguely interesting to photograph for WILD (Where I Live Day) weekend, which is looming large on the horizon ie next Saturday and Sunday. If you've not signed up or never even heard of it, head on over to the comm wild_photos to find out all the relevant info.

I ended up in the middle of an almost modern-day Fire of London (or Fire of Northampton, anyway). Greggs the Bakers was ablaze and the fire brigade turned up in force to rescue the staff, put out the flames and hopefully save some of the baked goods at the same time.

Here comes the first engine on the scene (note the nice black sandal/white sock combination of the disinterested spectator in the foreground):

Get those hoses out:

The blazing inferno (well, there was a bit of smoke at one point):

By this time a second fire engine and a paramedic had also turned up

and by the time I left on further photographic endeavours, a third engine, a fire department car and the police had also turned up.

So much excitement for one afternoon - and that's without mentioning the lions (which will be a tale for another day I think).

Day 30 - A song that you haven’t listened to in awhile

*looks at CDs on book-case to my right* I haven't got any Julia Fordham on my PC, and the CD case is covered in a thin fairly thick film of dust, so it's a fair bet to say I haven't listened to her for quite some time. She's got a really deep, beautiful voice, and just reading through the title tracks on the albums is bringing the songs all back to me. She's not the most cheerful of singers though. Here she is on YouTube:

Julia Fordham - Happy Ever After
Julia Fordham - Porcelain
Julia Fordham - Invisible War

And that's that! Can't believe that I've stuck with this meme for the whole 30 days. I haven't done that many consecutive postings ever, in the five years I've had this LJ. It's been fun though and hopefully has got me back into the groove of reading and commenting a bit more and posting in my own journal so that I don't become a lurky person again.

30 days of music, photos, meme
