AND FINALLY .... SUNDAY 3 MAY

This way to Part 1
This way to Part 2

THE GREAT CDS DRAGONBALL OUTING AND THE 100 CLUB

Having ascertained that Dragonball Evolution was showing at the Empire Leicester Square on Sunday afternoon, hawera and latestartercds had organised an outing, and we spent some time on Saturday inviting people to join us if they had nothing else on. Hawera kindly invited us to brunch beforehand, and we dined superbly on bacon, egg, sausages, toast, brioche and little chocolatey things (provided by Sky and friend), bucks fizz (from LS), coffee and a very healthy natural yogurt and fresh fruit mix put together by Eve(made even better for you with the addition of cream and honey).

gillo and her lovely daughter (who didn't come and enjoy the film with us) were waiting for us outside the cinema and we were thus a party of 12. We paid our money and then an usherette came to lead us to Screen 6. We went along corridors, through doors and up endless flights of stairs until we came to what must have been an attic room several houses along and looked like someone's pitch black living room where 22 cinema seats and a huge screen had been installed. And there was a man in there, a hapless member of the general public who had a couple of hours to kill and thought watching DBE for the second time alone on a Sunday afternoon was a good way to pass the time! o_O He assured us at the end that we hadn't spoiled his enjoyment of the film and didn't need us to chip in and pay him back his ticket price.

This was the most fun I'd had in ages.

  • Hammerpants blowing in the breeze.
  • Enormous dirigibles.
  • Counting Dragonballs and wondering exactly where Piccolo had got the 7th one from.
  • Master Rosti at peace (oh Buffy! - will he go on to have an abusive relationship with an unsuitable vampire in the sequel?).
  • Gill laughing herself silly every time there was a Buffyism.
  • Master Rosti's role of pointing out how quickly time was moving without very much having happened - very 'Flash I love you but we only have 24 hours to save the earth'. He also seemed to have been to the Gareth and James School of How to ActOr Badly.
  • Poor Goku!Grandfather, left to die all alone with just chickenfeet and birthday cake to keep him company.
  • Oh, and Oovavu the Monster from Shooting Stars.

I'm definitely getting this on DVD as soon as it comes out (and will be making Chris and the girls watch it with me). I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a sequel or four too. Poor Siccolo needs to get better and have more screen time.

The 100 Club was a great club venue, and I wish I'd had more time (and light) to look round and spot all the famous faces on the walls. The lighting was very red though and so I didn't even attempt to take any pictures and thus have no out of focus pics to inflict upon you. This was a completely different audience and ambiance for James from the previous two nights, but he seemed to be really enjoying himself, and felt good enough about how he was performing and being received to debut his new Cowboy Song, sung in broad cowboy without any guitar accompaniment (I'd say a capella but don't know if that's how you spell it). The place went from a noisy, chatty club into a place where you could have heard a pin drop. Not a sound to be heard apart from James singing a beautiful song beautifully, until the rapturous applause at the end. Amazing! A goosebump moment if ever I had one. My other favourite moment of the night (this one's for you bendy1) was when James started singing Layabout and asked people NOT to start clapping to this one. \o/

I risked the wrath of two tall girls by asking them to please not chat so loudly during the singing (thankfully they had remained silent during the new song) as I couldn't hear James very well over their voices. They looked at me a bit peculiarly and after a few minutes took themselves off to the bar and didn't come back.

James encouraged everyone to stay on after the gig and chat to all the wonderful intelligent people in the club, and as the DJ was playing some rocking music we decided to find a seat and get a drink from the bar. The barman was impressed with James, said he'd enjoyed the gig and thought he was really good. *loves that barman* We had a great time chair dancing, watching others dance (there was line dancing, country dancing and even riverdancing at one point) and enjoying the music. And then it was time to go home. :(

MONDAY 4 MAY

I'd decided to go back by coach as last year the trains were awful over the bank holiday weekend (and I'm glad I had done so as there were buses running from MK to Northampton again this year). I hadn't booked my ticket particularly early as there were plenty of coaches running from London to MK, but all the fares were the regular price of £11.50. Then one day I serendipitously checked the site and they were offering £1 fun fares on the 10.30 and 12.00 coaches. So I booked seats on both as I wasn't sure what time my lovely landlady LS was going to kick me out. I spent the journey home listening to the last few chapters of Small Favor (and crying - again - over poor Michael).

Chris and the girls met me at the coachway, where they told me all about their great trip to Skegness on Saturday, and we had some lunch before going home. And that was the end of a great weekend. Best Jamesing ever for me - and I've already warned the family not to expect me around next May, just in case. :D

And last but not least a big thank you to LS (landlady extraordinaire), Kaz (my roomie, late night chatter and spooky namesake) and EM (super travelling companion) for being great company over the weekend. *waves also* to sueworld, shapinglight, gillo, jamalov, stephen, sky (and friends), hawera, eve, polarbear, deboarahw37, cal and K, Gishlane, quietlychaotic, debris4spike, chrisUK and quite possibly several others too numerous to mention, you all contributed to the fabulousness of the whole weekend.
