"Noooo..."I whimpered. Adam grinned, well, as much as he possibly could over the phone at least.
"C'mon," Adam urged, "you're so into this whole scaring the shit out of people thing. Working in this haunted house would be the perfect job. Me and Hunter seriously need your help," Adam begged. I sighed.
"I do get payed, right?" I asked. Adam cheered on the other line.
"I knew you wouldn't let me down man!" Adam praised. I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, yeah. I want to see this place before it closes," I said. Adam's grin could still be heard through the line as he replied,
"Oh sure, dude. I'll come and get you right now." We shared our goodbyes before hanging up. I set my head in my hands. Adam always pulled me into these situations I did not want to be in. As in dating his Swedish cousin, driving myself down "Thrill Hill" on a skateboard, making peanut butter and jelly smoothies, and the list goes on.
Why do I always do these stupid things you ask? Well, he's my best friend and I love him dearly. Or it could just be the fact that I have nothing better to do. Yeah, I seriously think it's the second option.
_________
"Hey Jade," Adam greets. I give him a small smile and follow him outside, getting into the passenger's seat of his Buick. It's not that bad of a car actually. Well, except for the fact that in the summer, the leather interior will burn your skin off and in the winter, the leather interior will literally give you pneumonia.
"So, how busy are you guys usually?" I ask Adam as he begins to back out of the driveway. He shrugs, eyes on the road.
"Well, we open on Wednesday." He tells me. I stare at him wide-eyed.
"Dumbass! That's in two days!" I screech. Adam glances to me, giving a small smile before turning his attention back to the road.
"We can do it. All we need to do is rehearse and splatter some more blood around." Adam reassures. Damn optimist.
"Jade, dude, don't worry. You'll be great and I'm sure you'll get along with mostly everyone," Adam assures, briefly looking at me. I give him a small smile. Well, if Adam and Hunt get along with these guys, they must not be that bad. Hopefully.
___________
Yeesh. This place is sort of creepy. I mean, abandoned warehouse, can't get much creepier. I think I'm going to enjoy working here. Once Adam notices my anxious/awestruck/nervous gaze, he grins and grabs me by the arm, dragging me through a door on a office next to the haunted warehouse.
Upon entering I notice this place isn't as creepy as the outside. It's a basic white room; like a waiting room in a dentist/doctor office, complete with business-type blonde behind the desk, rapidly typing away at her keyboard. She looks up and notices me and Adam.
"Adam," she says, "you weren't supposed to be here until tomorrow." Adam grins and points to me.
"I know. This is Jade Puget I was telling you about. He wanted to check this place out before he agreed to work here," Adam explains. I give the blonde a small wave. She grins.
"Alright, well go on in Adam. Oh, by the way Jade, if you're having any problems ask me, Celia," Celia says with a smile. I nod and Adam ushers me through another door.
"Alright so where do you want to go first? We have make-up, costumes, special effects, props..." Adam trails off, counting off on his fingers as he lists. Hm, I've always wanted to know how they do those made-up gashes.
"Make-up, I guess," I mumble. Adam gives me a grin and rubs my shoulder.
"Man, you need to cheer up," he says, "C'mon."
____________
This room reminds me of one of those Hollywood make-up trailers. It's complete with a vanity table; set with millions of compacts, lipstick tubes, eyeliner pens, etc. We're not talking that cheap crappy stuff either, we're talking Covergirl, M.A.C., Color Workshop, Max Factor, Maybelene, N.Y.C., etc.
"Amazing," I whisper. Adam nods. A boy I hadn't even noticed was in our presence looks up from a "Star" magazine and grins broadly. He reminds me of a less drag-queen Jeffree Star. Just a little less. He leaps up from his spot on the love seat positioned at the back of the room and runs up to Adam, jumping up on him, squeezing him in one of the most amazing bear hugs I've ever seen. Taking my chance, I analyze him over. He has straightened raven fringe, heavily made-up doe eyes, and a natural paleness to his skin. Stereo-typical gay make-up boy.
"Adam!" the boy squeals, "I missed you, boy!" Oh yes, stereotypical gayness. Adam chuckles.
"Yeah Davey," he starts as "Davey" gets off, "I missed you too even though it's only been...oh...three hours," Adam says with a smile. Davey grins back before shifting his gaze to me.
"This that Jade character?" Davey asks. Ah, so Adam's been bragging about me I see. Ha ha well I -
"Eep!" I yelp. I was being too arrogant to notice Davey stalking circles around my body before pinching my ass. Damn that hurt. "What the hell was that for?" I demand, rubbing my ass gently. Davey giggles.
"I wanted to see if it was as tight as it looked," he truthfully answers. Hey, at least he's honest.
