Well, well, well. Where to begin?
Cheap Thrills was tonight. Remember a year or so ago, when they had that Christmas one and when it was over everyone was just like um... what was that? Was that Cheap Thrills?
Tonight's seemed very very similar, in my mind. Except not exactly. That time Dativus actually had some funny stuff. This time 99% of the funny/cool stuff was done by outside groups that were invited in.
The crowd's obvious favorite? The Boosters. Gee...
And I'm not just saying that because I'm a Booster fan. It was clear. They performed, the people laughed and applauded continuously, and some gave them a standing ovation when they were finished. Then, at the end when Dativus thanked the Boosters, the crowd roared once again, in-between pity applause over the rest of the event.
It sucked, and I'm pretty sure most people were pretty annoyed with the advertisements for saverush.com. Again, not just me. I heard people around me complaining, as well. The first time it came up, I heard people moaning. A few people were cheering (who I assume were the Dativus guys standing up against the wall), and everyone else was just silent or groaning to themselves and making remarks to the people around them. Why? Because most of them simply don't care. We came to Cheap Thrills to be entertained, not to be "preached at" about stuff that doesn't even matter. And when the show's finale was all based on that one thing, it was a really cruddy end to a really lackluster show overall. Heck, I saw lots of people get up and leave about halfway through the show.
I'm trying to remember the funny moments, but I'm having trouble. In the finale when Brandon started leaping around, that was amusing. The Chuck Norris references made me laugh, not because they were actually funny, but because I have a recent amusement stemming from Chuck Norris. The Boosters were funny, of course. The Step Team was good... at first I was questioning it, but once they got going it was really good.
I'm sorry, I really hate bashing on campus activities like this. Usually Cheap Thrills has a bit more to offer. Tonight was just ridiculous, though. I'm seriously considering not going to the next one. I probably will, in hopes that SOMETHING funny happens.
As Susan said, the Boosters were actually funny because they are funny people. The rest was just a bunch of popular people trying to be funny and not succeeding.
And I hate to say it... but I agree. The guests were the funniest. Snoop... Boosters... those were the highlights.
I must say, I'm REALLY looking forward to Encore tomorrow... they never disappoint.
Anyway, after being snubbed off, I latched onto some good friends of mine and we had a BLAST all night. I ended up going to Susan's apartment after the show and we had ice cream and watched Anchorman, which I hadn't seen and they were all pretty excited because I, of course, laughed like a psycho person. Good times were had, and I'm glad I actually got to hang out with some awesome people instead of sitting around in my room like I usually end up doing because my friends go out without considering me.
Yay for Susan and Cara and the rest of the gang tonight. You guys are awesome and made me feel loved. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CARA!!!
