In which Spider's bubble is broken.

HOME!

I think this place is gonna work for me, at least for now. The whole first day of training had nothing to do with the phones; it was like a 5th grade civics class taught by a really sincere progressive guy with a beard.

Can you believe there are people in this country who don't know who the vice president is? Who don't know what the "three branches of government" are called and what they do? Who don't know how many Senators each state has? Who can't name any of the idiots running in the Republican primary? Who don't know the governor of their own state or the mayor of their own city? Gaaah, I've been living in a bubble! I Hermione'd a lot; I couldn't help myself. The teacher and I wasted quite some class time talking politics. The other people just sat there kinda in shock.

In the break people asked me to explain what Occupy Wall Street/Boston was, and what we were trying to do, and what we accomplished. They also wanted me to explain why they should bother voting. *headdesk*

I'm kind of in shock myself. I know there are people who don't care, and people who don't get how our byzantine government system works; I just can't fathom that there are people who are entirely ignorant of things that are in the media news every single day. Even if all you watch is network TV, how can you not recognize the name Mitt Romney?
