Arachnid Update

Oct 20, 2009 12:52

This is all kinds of random stuff I've been thinking lately that have almost nothing to do with each other.

I'm not in Philadelphia because the schedule got changed and I'll be in Philadelphia tomorrow and Thursday instead of today and tomorrow.

Life here at GeneriCo proceeds in a leisurely fashion. Sometimes I even have work to do! Having no work ethic whatsoever, the slow pace does not bother me in the slightest. I hope that sooner or later I will be comfortable enough here to write fic at my desk. Right now, not so much.

I'm suffering intense Writing Performance Anxiety. No idea why. I just can't get myself to put the fucking words on the fucking screen.

I brought the boots I wear to the office in to the cobbler for re-heeling. Not just the heel pad -- I wear all my shoes down to the bone and so he's going to have to replace the actual heel itself. It will cost as much as it did to buy the shoes in the first place, but this way I'll get another winter out of them. In the meantime, I wore my black Chucks to work today. Nobody seems to notice (hey, I'm behind a desk most of the time anyway) but I really should have office shoes to wear tomorrow for the trip to GeneriCo World HQ in Philly. Which means a trip to DSW at lunch today, which means I'll probably end up buying more than one pair of shoes. As one does.

There are a lot of things I cannot stand about Boston, but one of the things I do like is some of the street names. They're so fucking colonial and evocative. I work by the wharfs (wharves? is that like dwarf-dwarves? Oh, English, you silly tart!), so you get street names like -- well, yes, you get Water Street, but you also get India Street and Batterymarch Street (and now you know almost exactly where I work!). Once upon a time, this was where all the great ships of sail would tie up; the name India Street brings me visions of the Eastern trading ships bringing in silks and tea, and Batterymarch street makes me think of sailors and marines strutting down to the harbor. Stuff like that. Yeah, I'm goofy that way, but... history, y'know?

On another subject entirely, my hair is now long enough to stay in a ponytail without any pins. It's between collar-length and shoulder-length. I have to brush it now because it gets little tangles. In other words, it is officially no longer short.

And that's your Arachnid Update for today.
