They play their guitar on the MTV.
Well I hope everyone's fourth of July weekend was as interesting as mine. Well it really wasn't TOO interesting, but it was definately nice. As you all know I went up to Camp. The plan was to not tell my sister I was coming up and suprise her. So when I arrived, I told Lauren Alexander (my friend/Blair's Waitress Councelor) and Josh Kline (One of my Camp Boys/Keither Fisher [Kitchen Stuard]) that she doesn't know, and I was sitting at one of her tables for lunch to suprise her. Luckily, one of my favorite former campers, Ben Lander, and a friend's younger brother, David Adler, are both councelors at one of her tables, so I could sit there AND actually enjoy the company (the odds of me sitting with complete strangers was pretty high, so this was a fortunate coincidence). I will spare you the details of how she was suprised, because it was a "funny if you were there" type thing, but I will tell you she was very suprised and very happy to see me. My little sister is awesome. I spent the majority of my days there not really doing much, just sort of wondering around, catching up on reading "A Conferancy of Dunces", and doing some camp things that I have not been able to do in a few summers. I even hopped a ride with the waiters and waitresses on monday night to go see Superman Returns, again. Kline pointed out that exactly 6 years ago that night, we all took an extended night off of camp, crammed 10 people in my mom's car, and 10 more in Michelle Schepsman's car, and went to see the first X-Men movie. Moments like that are what I miss most about camp, moments like that, and the moment we had in the parking lot before the movie. I also managed to get some color, despite the 90% cloud cover over the entirety of the couple of days I was there. I even got to experience a rain storm in Camp, which is always fun being stuck in a bunk with friends just shootin the shit and watching the lightning. One thing is for sure, every year I visit, is one more year where it is easier and easier for me to know I don't need to be there. If I had continued to go over the past 4 years, I would actually know people, as opposed to being "Matt's brother", also making it a little less socially awkward being in his shadow (it is very hard to create my own identity in just a couple of days, when my brother has created an image over a number of summers). I also didn't get to have a good "night out" experience that I would have really liked to have. On Sunday night, the majority of the people who are at camp, who were there when I was, were all on OD, so they couldn't come out drinking. And then on Monday night, there was a Staff meeting, so noone could go out then either. As it looks at work right now, I probably could have taken more days off, because noone is here to be in charge, and no agents are here to give me work to do. However, I feel like leaving Tuesday morning was a good way to go, because I would have gotten really bored if I stayed any longer. I am still going up for visiting day. Pictures from the weekend will be posted tonight on my photo site.
Best off-the-cuff/taken-way-out-of-context quote of the weekend goes to Jen Alster for "Bunk P on the Table!" (read aloud for full effect, the louder the better, especially at your place of employement).
So I came home early in the morning yesterday, riding past a HUGE tractor-trailor fire. Thankfully there were no cars on the road, so it did not affect how long we were sitting on the bus. Then last night I went with Dave, Brooke, and Brooke's friend Beth to see the fireworks from Long Island City. It was pretty cool. Nicer then watching from the roof of someone's building, because we were right on the water, and right under the fireworks. Couldn't ask for a better view. We decided that next year we have to plan a day of it, pack a cooler with enough food, and invite more people, and actually remember to bring something to sit on, although the ground wasn't too bad, even though it was raining earlier in the day; and of course, remember to bring a raido so we could hear the music (something I have forgotten to do my past three NYC fourth of July's). I also decided that it would be cool to get a place off the Long Island Express way, and throw a party on the fourth called "the Fourth of Jew L.I.E. party". That would be pun-tastic.
So as I said before I am reading a book called "A Confederacy of Dunces", by John Kennedy Toole. Sadly it is the only book published by this author, because so far it is really excellent. If you are a fan of great character driven stories, this one is truely it. Toole really makes it easy for me to picture each individual person, to the point where now in the book, I can laugh and say "that is so like (insert character from book here)." Plus, the main character is a complete anti-hero; just a person who is so foul and horrible that you can't help but just enjoy the world he creates for himself with a sort of "you reep what you sew" attitude. If you are looking for a good summer read, go out and grab this book. I just hope the ending doesn't suck, because then you will all be pissed for having listened to me.
This morning I started a "new" gym workout, waoking up at 6, instead of 6:15, giving myself an extra fifteen minutes at the gym, which when working out, can make a huge difference. I actually got a reall run in, as opposed to just a short "sprinting" session. Then I came into work. There is nothing to do here at the office (as I also mentioned earlier). It's kind of nice to know that I don't have to do anything taxing. I also found out that this past Monday (which I took as a personal day, because for some assenign reason the "office manager" deiceded we HAD to be here), the "office manager" didn't show up. Not only that, but didn't tell anyone other then the sales manager (the actual head of the office), via email, that she wasn't going to be in, at the last minute. I won't get into it, because I don't want to get myself in trouble, but let's just say I'm a little peeved. If you want to know more, gimme a call or an IM and I'll gladly rant and rave about it.
So I am here doing nothing. Feel free to entertain me if you can.
