The reality of the fur industry

The really sad thing, is that this is the absolute "tamest" of this sort of film that I could find. This is happening here, in America. The ones from other countries are far worse. They are far crueler, clubbing the animals to death, even skinning them alive. I debated posting them, as well, but they were just so horrible, I couldn't even watch ( Read more... )

I wear both skins and furs becasue they are a part of my cultural history and heritage.

At the same time I see every animal as my brother, and although you may see me in particular setting covered from literally head to toe in buckskin, bone, buffalo hide, antler, feathers, elk teeth and everything else you can think of, I have a cultural heritage attatched very strongly to the wearing of such garments and living as a part of nature which is literally the center of my spiritual core. I do not harm animals that I do not have every intention of BOTH eating AND wearing.

The wearing of animal parts in and of itself is not wrong, at all. Nature forms a circle wherein all the beings of this earth live in some way or another off of others - that is the way of things, and always has been. Where you start to encounter a problem is when people - and in particular - mass markets, who have no respect for the animal involved decide to enter the game. Like the great buffalo culls of the mid and late 19th century which not only destroyed the animals, but the people, birds and wolves that lived as a part of them - of all the buffalo killed in those years, less than TWO PERCENT were killed by non traders. That 98% of the great herds were killed specifically for thier hides - the carcasses left to rot on the plains, with all the good parts left to turn to dust, and the people and creatures dependant upon the buffalo along with them.

The point I'm trying to make is - it is not really fair to label all people who wear animal produce as 'revolting', because you don't know thier reasoning behind it.

I do NOT in the LEAST agree with fur farms, or rich white kids wearing mink coats to the opera, or anything of the sort - but to lump those people into a catagory with people like myself is simply deplorable. I love all the animals of this world like my brothers, I live as a part of them, as much as one can in these times, and I try to retain my place in the great scheme of things. So, amongst more costumnal things, I wear a buffalo hide jacket on a daily basis - and you know... it's warm as all hell and has lasted me for over 7 years of hard wear and will probably last another 7 and 7 again without needing a stitch.

And, the way I see it, the world is better that way... because one buffalo died for my jacket - and every part of him was used for something...... but were I to wear an imitation plastic leather coat or something, not only would I be contributing to the death and displacement of hundreds, if not thousands of animals for the factory to operate - I'd also need a new coat every year, you see?

Just an opinion from a slightly different viewpoint than yours, is all... But again, I will affirm that I have no time nor words for fur farmers or thier ilk. Live as a part of nature, to exploit and destroy it is to exploit and destroy yourself and your people.

I can see if all the parts of the animal were being used. I am really just meaning the fur trade where it's a "luxury" item. The exploitation is just fucking sick and wrong.

I mean, this video I put on here is the TAMEST of the fur farming videos I could find.
