Normally I don't do two posts within a week's time, but a good deal of things have been happening as of late (!). Basically, I've been having a completely great past 2 or 3 days... they've been really good, putting me in a good mood. Of course, my pessimistic nature makes me really suspicious because of this... as long as it lasts, though, it's a good thing.
Well, chronological order is a good thing for a historian to use, so I'll go with that. On Wednesday, I got my manager evaluations back from the employees. Almost unanimously good... which surprised me. It was amusing that they couldn't seem to agree... all the things I was criticized on, others said I did well. So who knows?
A little after that, a friend who I hadn't heard from in a year or so got a hold of me. This guy was one of my best friends when I was kid, but somehow we lost touch. Anyways, he tells me that he's getting married, and he wants me to be in the wedding. Says he hasn't had another friend like me... you guys know that I usually have something to say to anything... I was totally speechless.
On Thursday and Friday, there was a pair of lectures at Transy by Timothy Tyson and Anne Braden. It would be really hard to paraphrase these presentations, but they were very powerful and stimulating... and it left me with a deep sense of satisfaction and confidence about my chosen line of work. To educate youth about our and others' societies, traditions, struggles, triumphs, and defeats... the study of humanity at its finest.
I also went to classroom observation for the first time on Friday. I was assigned to Lafayette High School in Lexington. The teacher wasn't there (some first day!) and the other teachers and students thought I was the sub. Do I really look that old? I mean, I had even forgone the tie, so I couldn't have looked that authoritative.
Also, tonight (about an hour ago actually) I broke the 100 song mark on my MP3 player. Anyone who knows me very well knows how deep my musical retardation runs, and I'm happy to have made some progress. w00t for that.
Well, good for you if you read this far. I will have to think of some suitable prize for the 2 of you who did so. Maybe some compressed air, or a couple of Post-Its. Oh, I found an old copy of 501 French Verbs, but I've sworn off that terrible language. How about that?
