Well, as of Saturday I'm living in my own place. I don't quiiiite make enough to go completely on my own yet, though. Things like my toll tag, cell phone, and car insurance are still being paid by the folks, but I'm taking care of pretty much everything else, including health insurance and gas and such on my own.
The place is decent. For the price, I guess. It's taken them a few days to fix some things. Biggest problems were a patio door that wouldn't shut quite flush, some water damage, the dishwasher doesn't quite work, and the A/C wouldn't cool. Also some badly patched wall holes.
Well, the maintenance guy came by today and got most of those things, though the dishwasher is still broken. It RUNS, and that's why they said it works - because it does in fact turn on and spray water. But when you put soap in it and run it, there's still soggy soap in the little container. Basically it doesn't clean anything.
Also, while doing all this, they got PAINT on my BRAND NEW SOFA. Any ideas on how to get latex paint out of suede fabric without ruining the fabric, please PLEASE let me know. I'm a bit pissed about that. The mark isn't big, but that's not really the point. I shouldn't have to accept damage to my things when they come to fix it. There's also a mysterious gouge in my desk, but the desk is old and I just moved it, so there's no way of knowing I didn't make that during the move.
Other problems, let's see. Well, my verizon internet and phone was supposedly started on the 31st, when I moved in. That's when my account became active and when I was supposed to have been billed from. I got an email on the 2nd saying it would be turned on the 5th. Then I got one on the 3rd saying it was on. Some very annoying tech support calls later, and they deemed my phone line was messed up somewhere, and they'd come and fix it. They came by today, and now my phone works. Still no DSL, though, so they're sending someone out tomorrow [I hope] to check on that and get that working, too. So 7 days after I started getting billed, I have service? I don't think so. Once this gets resolved, I'm calling the billing department and telling them to pro-rate me from today, when I could finally use my phone.
In the meantime, it's stolen wireless for me.
Not much else going on really. I'm still taking classes for alternate certification, still manager at Einstein Bros. Sales have been pretty terrible the past month or so, and so until they increase I'm unlikely to get another raise, which I desperately need. I'm pretty good at suggestively selling things to people, but I don't really work peak hours so there's only so much I can do.
I need to get my portfolio together and make a run to schools around me, but I need a free day to do that and unfortunately those aren't very forthcoming. I don't think I have many weekdays off coming up, but I might get next Wednesday or Thursday off. More likely than not, though, it won't be until the Tuesday after this next one that I have a day to myself. Saturday I have off to take the class, and Sunday the 15th I'm taking the day off, but weekend days hardly help me apply at schools, do they?
Anyway I live in Irving now, pretty much right at where 161 meets 183, so if anyone wants to know more to come visit, ask away!
