AND THEY HAVE A PLAN

Jul 12, 2006 23:57

Am I cooler than the Cylons?

Next Friday after work, I will BART down to the Oakland aiport and fly to L.A., where I will spend some quality time with dahliam, my dearest friend in the entire world named Dahlia.

Saturday morning, we will head down to San Diego. aprilbegins, do you have wheels? I haven't had a chance to ask if you can join us.

So I took a look at the Saturday schedule for Comic-Con and came to the conclusion that it was definitely in my best interest to join cadhla and her posse on Have a Seat Island. Basically, if you want to find me on Saturday, look for me in Room 20, inching closer and closer to the front. But, seriously, guys, I want to know what everyone's plans are so I can make sure to meet the people what need meeting! There are hugs to be delivered, dammit!

10:30-12:00 Lost: Season 3- You won't want to miss this panel with Jorge Garcia (Hugo “Hurley” Reyes) and Daniel Dae Kim (Jin-Soo Kwon) from the cast of ABC’s hit show Lost as they are joined by co-creator/executive producer Damon Lindelof and executive producers Bryan Burk and Carlton Cuse to discuss the new season of Lost. They'll preview excerpts from the Lost Season 2 DVD box set, take questions from the audience, and perhaps even offer some surprises! Room 20
Surprises? Like an OMGWTFPOLARBEAR?! One can only hope. This should be an interesting panel, and I like Jorge Garcia and Daniel Dae Kim (Gavin!).

I suppose we will eat lunch between 12:00 and 12:00 because there's no really time to eat at this thing, is there? Can you bring food into the rooms? Maybe we could just grab some fast food for lunch on the way and eat quietly.
12:00-1:00 The Simpsons- Heading into their unprecedented 18th season this fall, and with their historic 400th episode airing next spring, The Simpsons continues to entertain and delight. Members of the team responsible for the longest-running comedy on television will be on hand to answer the questions everyone wants to know, including: how do you continue to keep it so good? Panelists include Matt Groening, creator and executive producer; James L. Brooks, executive producer; Matt Selman, executive producer; David Mirkin, executive producer; Al Jean, executive producer and head writer; Don Payne, co-executive producer; Bill Odenkirk, co-executive producer; Matt Warburton, supervising producer; Mike Scully, producer; and David Silverman, director. Moderated by Bill Morrison. Room 20
Okay, so I barely watch the show anymore, but it's the fucking Simpsons, dude.
1:00-2:00 Bradbury, Harryhausen and Ackerman- Three legends. Three lifelong friends. Do not miss Ray Bradbury, Ray Harryhausen, and Forry Ackerman as they reminisce about life, science fiction, fantasy, movies, and more. Room 20
So I'm not even that huge a Ray Bradbury fan, as I've only read Fahrenheit 451 and that one short story about the kids who lock the girl in the closet and make her miss the one day of summer she'll ever have a chance to see ("All Summer in a Day," I think it's called). Ray Harryhausen is Ray Fucking Harryhausen, man. Clash of the Titans, baby. And I have no clue who this Forry Ackerman guy is. Who knows if this will actually be interminably boring? But the only other place I would rather be at this time is listening to Kevin Smith in Hall H, which Seanan has helpfully informed me not to bother trying to get into.
1:00-2:30 Kevin Smith- The moment is here. Kevin Smith’s Clerks 2 is in theaters now, and the man, the myth, the legend behind it is here at Comic-Con to talk about the making of the film and whatever else he damn well pleases. Hall H
But maybe he'll remember me and save me a seat! You never know!

But that is the magic of Room 20! Because I'm not a hardcore comics fanboy, I don't even know half the people at these panels, so there are only a small percentage of them I'm remotely interested in.
2:00-3:00 SCI FI: Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis-Diving into its tenth season, Stargate SG-1 has made history by becoming the longest-running sci-fi drama in U.S. television history. The show follows General Hank Landry (Beau Bridges) and his team as they travel through the Stargate-an ancient portal allowing instantaneous travel to distant galaxies-to explore the uncharted regions of the universe and save the Earth from destruction. Panelists for SG-1 include Christopher Judge (Teal’c) and additional cast members, plus executive producers/writers Joe Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, and Nora O’Brien, VP original programming, SCI FI.

On Stargate Atlantis, currently in its third season, evidence of a secret base left by the originators of the Stargate is found in the most unlikely of places-on Earth. The implications of this discovery lead the team to the distant Pegasus galaxy, where they find the legendary city of Atlantis, and a primitive human civilization threatened by a sinister new enemy. Stargate Atlantis panelists include Joe Flanigan (Lt. Colonel John Sheppard), Torri Higginson (Dr. Elizabeth Weir), Rachel Luttrell (Teyla Emmagan), David Hewlett (Dr. Rodney McKay), Paul McGillion (Dr. Carson Beckett), executive producers/writers Joe Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, and Tony Optican, VP development and current programming, SCI FI.Gary Jones (Chief Master Sergeant Walter Harriman, Stargate SG-1) moderates both panels. Room 20
I'm not remotely interested in this, but I have friends who are big fans, so I may attend in their stead, but this hour is probably the best chance to meet up during the day. I hear you're not allowed to enter or leave the room once the panel starts, though. Perhaps I can take some time to peruse the massively gargantuan dealer's room I've heard about.

But, what ho? 3:00 - 3:30 is TOTALLY FREE, YOU GUYS. I wonder what chaos will descend upon Room 20 in that time, though.
3:30-4:30 TV Guide Presents: 2006 and Beyond- Craig Tomashoff, TV Guide’s West Coast bureau chief, hosts this look at the current successful supernatural/ fantasy/sci-fi television series and how they are paving the way for television series of the future. Panelists include Brannon Braga (Star Trek: Voyager), Rene Echevarria (Medium), Jorge Garcia (Lost), David Goyer (Blade), Jennifer Love Hewitt (Ghost Whisperer), Jeph Loeb (co-executive producer, Heroes), Bryan Fuller (consulting producer, Heroes), Frank Spotnitz (Night Stalker, Star Chamber), and Mark Stern (VP, original programming, SCI FI Channel). Room 20
This looks ridiculously sweet in its own way. Jennifer Love Hewitt will be there looking hot. And Bryan Fuller!! I wonder if I can meet him and tell him how much I love Dead Like Me and Wonderfalls and that I know llamacran and am therefore cool. And screw Medium; René Echevarria is one of the creators of The 4400.

AND SPEAKING OF THE 4400, YOU STUPID WHORES:
4:30-5:30 The 4400- Get a sneak peek at upcoming scenes from CBS Paramount Network Television's hit sci-fi series The 4400 for USA Network, followed by a panel discussion with series stars Joel Gretsch (Tom Baldwin), Jacqueline McKenzie (Diana Skouris), Patrick Flueger (Shawn Farrell), and Megalyn Echikunwoke (Isabelle Tyler) and executive producer Ira Steven Behr (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) and producer Craig Sweeny (Medium). The third season of The 4400 sparks a new beginning for the 4400 people who, over a span of years, mysteriously disappeared-only to be returned to Earth all together in a ball of light. Though the returnees have not aged physically, many of them reappeared with dramatic abilities ranging from enhanced reflexes to precognition. NTAC (National Threat Assessment Command) is the government agency responsible for keeping track of the returnees and investigating all things related to the 4400. Craig Tomashoff, West Coast Bureau Chief at TV GUIDE, will moderate. Room 6CDEF
First, you put the frakking Battlestar Galactica panel on FRIDAY, and now this? Now that I have discovered Jacqueline McKenzie was in Deep Blue Sea, which makes me love the movie even more? It's too bad they don't have Mahersfsdjhgkshgjskdhgsjkdhgsjdv Ali there just for the hilarity as the moderator attempts to pronounce his name.

If you don't understand why I have to miss it, you're at the wrong journal.
4:30-5:30 Veronica Mars- Series creator and executive producer Rob Thomas (Drive Me Crazy, Cupid) and cast members Kristen Bell (the upcoming movie Pulse, Showtime's Reefer Madness), Jason Dohring (Deep Impact), Francis Capra (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Ryan Hansen (Death by Engagement), Michael Muhney (upcoming Lovers, Liars & Lunatics), and Enrico Colantoni (Galaxy Quest) have brought to life some of the most memorable noir characters on network television today. Join Veronica and the rest of Neptune's residents for a Q&A session about the San Diego-filmed series moderated by tvguide.com's Daniel Manu. Room 20
This looks like it might be cool. I mean, they have guys from Deep Impact and C.S.I. AND OMG THE DUDE FROM MATCHBOX 20!!!11

Who knows how long we'll be dallying afterwards with the autograph session. I mean, all my friends are special and cool and totally deserve to talk to the VIPs for hours and hours.

Stop looking at me like that, Seanan.

I hope that by this time, dinner plans will have materialized. Or maybe we can eat the dealer's room. There's, like, no time to see that thing.
8:00-10:00 CCI:IFF Extra: Done the Impossible: The Fans' Tale of Firefly and Serenity- Adam Baldwin hosts the telling of this vivid Browncoat story that features interviews with Joss Whedon, creator of Firefly and Serenity, the cast, crew, and most important, the fans themselves. Join filmmakers Brian Wiser and Jeremy Neish for a Q&A after the film! Room 6B
I knew dahliam was going to be interested in this. I didn't really do much at all to save Firefly, and I've heard time and time again that the fans didn't really do as much as they think they did, but it's still a fun story, and it's going to continue to be propagated forever and ever no matter what anyone says.

I still haven't figured out what to do after this. Now that I'm flying and not driving, I do have the option of hanging in San Diego, provided I:

A) have a place to sleep
B) have something to do the next day
C) have some way of getting to LAX Sunday night
D) don't run off to elope with Kristen Bell

Otherwise, I'll be heading back to L.A. with Dahlia, and I shall be free for L.A. hijinks on Sunday, which is also perfectly fine. It does figure, though, that there's a Fables panel on Sunday. THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THE PANEL FOR A COMIC I ACTUALLY READ ON THE DAY I'M NOT GOING, WHORES.

That is pretty much the plan as I know it. I would really like to fill it more with you people. You guys make it all worth it.

personal, lost, dead like me, veronica mars, kristen bell, rob thomas, firefly, lj friends, the 4400, fandom love, television, real life friends, battlestar galactica, serenity, comics, wonderfalls, comic-con
