I just finished the 26th episode of Death Note and my feelings about the subject can pretty much be summed up into one statement: Yagami Light is such a BASTARD!
With that said, I do recommend that people check this out. Very intelligent and it's also the first time I find myself cheering for the people after the protagonist. Good stuff although it doesn't really get going till episode three.
Summary: Light(Raito) Yagami is a brilliant teenager still in school who holds a pessimistic view of the world. He seems to see crime everywhere and believes it to be corrupted. When he finds a mysterious notebook on the ground titled "Death Note" he takes it home out of curiosity. Inside the notebook there is instructions on how to use it to kill anyone who's true name is written in.
Light decides that if he should cleanse the world of evil with this book, he would become god of the perfect world. After a series of murders, the Japanese Police and the best detective in the world, "L", begin to track him down. Light is quick to realize that "L" is a genius and his only enemy that stands a chance of getting close. This results in an intense battle of intelligence where hiding one's identity and finding the other's is the key, who will win? A great story of psychological cat and mouse.
