Yes, I finally went to see this. I have also noticed that movies during January and February are pretty bad. I mean, there's no new movie that I want to see that is grabbing my interest. Not even any awful movie that might look entertaining. So I decided to watch Tangled after long last.
Spoilers ahead:
Previews:
Lots of stuff I don't want to see except for Winnie the Pooh. There was some Barbie movie, a movie called Hop that looks wretched, The Little Engine that Could (no, not watching that), Kung Fu Panda 2, and something called Rio. Not a good crop this time.
The Good:
-I enjoyed the story immensely. It's been a long time since I enjoyed a Disney movie and this one did not disappoint. I know a lot of negativity comes from some of the stuff at the end but a lot of this stuff does happen in the actual fairy tale. Rapunzel does lose her hair and her tears do heal the prince (Flynn). Although in the fairy tale, her tears healed his sight where Rapunzel saves Flynn's life. My guess is that eye gouging would be too much for little kids and that's why they changed it to a stabbing.
-Love the characters. Love the thugs. Love Maximus and Pascal. And of course, loved Rapunzel, Mother Gothel, and Flynn.
-Love the music. Alan Menken is a genius as always. Although I wish something else besides "I See the Light" had been nominated for Best Song. The other songs are better than that one.
-I've never cared much for Mandy Moore but I think voice acting is a good thing for her. She should do more of it.
-I have a crush on Zachary Levi.
-Lovely animation. I watched the 2D version and I don't think I missed anything by not seeing it in 3D.
The Bad:
-My only real gripe was that it seemed to go pretty fast. And the plot was a bit predictable but I'm okay with that. It didn't hinder the movie at all.
Also, Goethel's hair reminds me too much of own mother's hair and that creeped me out a bit 0_o
Overall Grade: A
In Harry Potter terms, EE (The pacing is what kept it from getting an O)
Would I watch it again? Definitely.
