Doctor Who 2.05: A totally awesome ep.! There was some nice development of Mickey, but now I'm afraid they're going to kill him off! It's just seems like some kind of TV law that you only pay attention to the secondary/tertiary characters right before you axe them. Speaking of DW, Sci Fi re-ran one of my favorite eps., "The Doctor Dances". There were banana jokes, an ambi-sexual time-traveling rogue-ish time agent, and tons of banter. Oh, the banter! And everyone lives at the end!
In other TV-related things, I watched the West Wing series finale with tears barely held in check. I wasn't as much of a sopping mess as last week's ep., but still. It was a lovely send-off for one of my favorite shows--one of the first shows where I actually, like, really cared about the characters and the writing and the directing. After being a loyal fan/viewer for 6+ years, it's hard to imagine that it won't be coming back, but I think it went in the way it should go: with the end of the Bartlett administration and the beginning of a new one. I can honestly say that this was a series finale that didn't leave me disappointed in any major way. Perhaps it's because TPTB knew pretty much from the start of the season that this would be the last one, but they took their time in tying up all of the plot threads and loose ends. In a way, they've been saying good bye since the beginning of the season, what with the emphasis on the election of the new president and all. It was really satisfying to say good bye to each character, even ones we haven't seen for years (hi, Sam!). I'll miss it terribly, but after a couple of iffy years in the middle, the show got back on track to go out with style. It went out on a beautiful bittersweet note that I won't forget. Of course, I feel it's only appropriate to quote one of Jed Bartlett's trademark phrases: "Okay, what's next?"
