I'm realizing that a large portion of my job is really to try and educate the very people who are the most resistant to learning new skills and ideas, and take the most offense from being told they should change how they do things to help other people/the environment. It's fun! The best method: BROCHURES!
On a related note, sometimes I get in this comfy little upper-class, liberal, NPR-listening bubble and forget that all the crazy shit I read about people doing on ontd_p (the only place I ever see opinion pieces or pieces on the media) is actually real. We had AM radio on last night because you can only listen to FM for about a month before you start bleeding out of your eyes because of the repetition, and it happened to be Michael Savage talking about how Germany was not a dictatorship, was democratic, and that IT COULD HAPPEN HERE. DO YOU -- DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA? DO YOU KNOW THIS? DO YOU KNOW THIS? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN HERE? So I got some ice cream at our local hippy liberal organic overpriced waffle shop and went home.
