I originally posted this review on crunchyroll. I'm deleting my account on there so I thought I'd post here.
SPOILER ALERT! Do NOT read any further if you are spoiler free or haven't finished the drama yet....
But if you have or don't really care, please proceed.....;)
Personal Taste was just all over the place for me. The plot didn’t flow naturally. Starting where Kae-In and Jin-Ho fell in love until the end of the drama. All the developments just seemed awkwardly detached and out of place. In particular, Kae-In’s issues should have been addressed earlier so they would have a deeper tie in with the plot. When Kae-In started crying because she was overwhelmed was the memories of her mother’s death, I began to cry too…because Son Ye Jin a brilliant actress. I was not able to fully buy the character’s issues. The mother mystery storyline didn’t help the characters progress any further nor did it really explain why they act the way they do. Why does Kae-In let men walk all over her? Why doesn’t she tell guys to eff off when they screw her over? Is it because she was never able to receive her father’s love and approval, so she must seek out theirs? I wasn’t able to fully understand the characters and I solely blame the writers for that. All the actors did a decent job with the material they were given. However, their acting can only cover up so much of Personal Taste’s flaws. And believe me, it was chalk full of them.
I honestly should have liked this drama more than I actually did. : ( I have been following the gossip on this drama ever since the rumors of Yoon Eun Hye and Joo Ji Hoon being casted as the leads came about a year and half ago. I have been patiently waiting to see this drama come to my screen and I sadly can't help but wonder why I even bothered getting invested. Biggest drama disappointment so far in 2010.
