Sarah gently placed her hand on Cameron’s arm to aid the girl with her school work.  It was pointless for Sarah to try to help, and they both knew it.  Machines didn’t require help for minuscule chores like school assignment. Sarah was only gathering information - information to break the trust her son had for the machine.

When the tips of Sarah’s fingers brushed Cameron’s skin, it startled her. She had expected the girl’s flesh to be cold, metallic and cold like the robotic frame under the skin, but it wasn’t. It felt warm and rather inviting.

Sarah jerked back from Cameron more fearful. The machine’s rapid improvements to its camouflage were impressive. Cameron now seemed to be able to fit into human society without detection.   She looked human, she felt human.

“I do not need your assistance,” stated Cameron.

Sarah shook her head. Lack of emotion in Cameron’s stare and voice eased the fears she felt. It was still easy to detect the machines. But, how long would that last?
