The Fire Lord smirked evilly as his brother entered the room. Ozai had been waiting for him to visit. He knew his older brother’s curiosity would get the best of him. It always did. As soon as the Agni Kai had finished, he knew it was a mere matter of time before Iroh would come to confront him.

“It seemed as bit harsh,” Iroh commented nonchalantly. He normally just minded his own business, not getting involved in a sensitive family affair like this, but he had made a promise to Zuko.

“Perhaps you shouldn’t have taught him to be so pathetic,” Ozai suggested cruelly. “It might have worked for you in the past, but it only worked because Father liked you best. He made it work for you. But he’s gone now.”

“So you are so harsh on Zuko to punish me?” Iroh asked shocked at his brother’s callousness toward his own son.  “Does that seem fair?”

“Fair? What do you know about fairness?” Ozai snorted mockingly. “I can recall you never questioning Father’s fairness when I was punished more severely than you for the same offense. Whenever you got caught you’d just give Father your puppy-dog eyes and get off without punishment. You weren’t anything but lucky.”

“But the punishment was much too extreme,” Iroh said gently. “The actions of our father are not Zuko’s fault.”

“You know what I think,” Ozai laughed. “You’re ashamed that you brought this upon the boy, without your influence he would not be suffering.  But it’s not the first time a master has punished himself with guilt over a student.”
