Shinji hated his father’s ambition. It wasn’t that it was a bad ambition; after all it was to save the world from the angels. But the way his father was going around about it, Shinji could not approve. Gendo sent them out without enough training or intelligence against the monsters, sometimes with disastrous results. He always expected everything to be done his way.
Shinji believed his father never saw how Rei completely isolated herself from everyone in her life. Shinji positive that it was her way for dealing with the pain. Gendo would never know the amount of mental anguish Asuka had to deal with on a daily basis. Even Misato was torn apart by the ordeal, yet she was determined never to show it at work. But Shinji could tell from her behavior at home that she was suffering.
How did his father expect everyone to complete the mission that was ahead when even together the crew was missing pieces of themselves? All of the loose ends that were shattered off from being forced into battle due to his determination to be victorious.
