The boy’s eye grew heavier and heavier with each phrase from his mother. His mother had sung him the lullaby every night running as far back as he could remember.
He was sound a sleep before his mother said the last verse.
The next morning when he awoke, she was gone. She seemed to have vanished into thin air. The following weeks, he was restless at night. He tried to imagine her voice reciting the soothing melody but it didn’t work. He wondered if it was because he never remembered the ending because by that time he was always fast asleep.
Soon the melody no longer brought him joy but tears of sadness. It reminded him of his mother and her beautiful vocalization of the song he would never hear again
