Civility

I was up until 3:00am last night. Not playing games, but reading about a game. A single game of Civ IV, to be precise. It's a damned fine read, so I'll just leave that link over here.

The Civilization games are pretty much as geek as you can get. It's crazy the amount of domain knowledge you need to develop in order to understand how to play them. I'm starting to think I need to actually read that blasted manual; I only just figured out (thanks to that game summary) that chopping trees sends shields to the city to fuel what you're building.

So yeah, I spent a couple hours today playing Civ III, and no, I don't want to finish that particular game. :P I don't know for sure if it's a peculiarity of Civ III, or just the way I play the game (i.e., badly), but once you hit the mid point of the game there's this frustrating lull where you're just pushing to get to the next age. Fend off attackers, upgrade city improvements, get better units, wait.. hope you don't end up with pollution or a rebelling populace.. Gets really boring.  (I've played a bit of Civ IV in my time, and you can really dial up the game speed in that, so it could just be that I'm viewing it through that lens. *shrug*)

Still have that itch to click for that next turn.. I'm sure it'd be a lot more satisfying if I could play multi. :/
