I have never been one to be gifted with words. That was always Dilios' gift. He moved my soldiers more than I ever could. Combat is my expertise, but unfortunately, that does not assist one in the art of writing

((ooc; I don't know if people know War for who she really is, but since Spartans are such avid warriors and all about war and fighting and stuff, I'm going to say that she's familiar, but he can't exactly figure out why....they should get along grrreat, though ;3))
I am; I spent a great deal of time at the waterfront in Alexandria, speaking with various traders. Darius...he was not a current ruler in my time; do you refer to Darius III of Persia?
It is a type of timepiece. Those in this City are advanced far beyond the mechanized water clocks we used at home. Perhaps you would be more familiar with a sun dial?
((OOC: That's why I keep wikipedia on speed-dial, heh. What I don't know is where they'd be in each others' timelines. XD ...Looked it up, and turns out the Battle of Thermopylae comes approximately 300 years before Ptolemy? I think?))
Darius was a Persian, yes, but he was the first. His son, Xerxes, decided that Egypt and Asia were not enough for him, and so he attempted to overthrow my beloved Greece...although, a man who fancies himself a god is easily tricked, and is no match for Spartan warriors.
Ah...I see. What is it counting down to? Surely not the time...there is something foreboding about that structure.
((ooc; Based on the dates in your userinfo, they're approximately 342 years apart - from Ptolemy's birthdate, that is. Wiki says that Ptolemy was a Pharoah before Egypt became a province of Rome, and Rome did not exist during Leonidas' time; Xerxes was Pharoah of Egypt from 486-465 BC; the Battle of Thermopylae took place in 480 BC. So yeah, there's QUITE a few years between these two guys, but that doesn't mean they can't get along! :D ))

.. Um. I'm not really sure about the Carousel... but people can't stop it. It just keeps spinning..

The carousel makes me uneasy. Why does it spin so?
Reply
From what I have learned, the purpose of the carousel seems to be a visual representation of the counting down of the clock in this place.

What is a clock?
((ooc; As far as I know, clocks weren't invented yet; I believe the sundial was all that they had back then...but correct me if I'm wrong!))
