Rant Approaching: OCD Class

Seriously people of the world, what is your problem? Why do you all seem to treat your stuff like shit? And not just your stuff, other people's stuff too. Bloody hell...

"Return of the King" on Gamecube arrived in the post today, this game was described as being "like new."  it most certainly wasn't. In fact it was probably the most "used" worthy videogame box I've seen in a long time. I can't even begin to fathom the amount of effort that was put into making this case look like crap, I can only assume it was used exclusively as a plate when eating especially crumbly chocolate, always stored near spattering oils while cooking, thrown extra hard against several solid surfaces and finaly sat on a few times for good measure before being left to collect untold levels of dust.

This isn't even an isolated incident... I'd wager a good third or even half of any used DVD or Game I buy will have a shockingly poor case. I honestly wonder what the fuck people do with their boxes to make them so utterly shoddy-looking. They sure as shit don't put them on a fucking shelf. If you went through my entire collection of games, nay, collection of just about ANYTHING you could tell what had been bought used and what I'd bought new myself. Even as a child I treated all my stuff with the utmost care, I think I can only remember two or three toys breaking on me due to something I personally did and notthe cause of a) shoddy workmanship e.g. something bought for about £1 from tescos or b) design flaw (two Red Dragonzords had to be returned because the arm would break when transformed...).

The frustrating part is, this isn't even exclusive to their own stuff. I've had rental discs from LoveFilm come in scratched to hell with what I can only assume was a combination of knives and compasses. The most recent being the most alarming, a disc so damaged my DVD player literally refused to play it, when I checked the underside of the disc there was a gouge over an entire half of the disc like someone had hit it with a miniature axe. It just beggars belief...

Even some of my friends aren't so careful with stuff I lend them. I treat everything I borrow like it's made of glass. I think some people assume because it's just a box it doesn't matter as long as the disc is ok. The problem being if the disc breaks they'd probably replace it, if the box breaks, I don't they'd care and probably think me mad to request a change of case. These days I generally just shove the disc in a blank CD case, claiming it's because it's easier to carry than a DVD size one.

So yeah, treat your shit right peeps.

people, stuff, rant
