I don't know if Karofsky will be redeemed. Glee has certainly redeemed other bullies -- Puck wanted to flip a port-a-potty with Artie trapped inside, and now he and Artie are best buds; Finn used to throw pee balloons at Kurt and now they're comfortably cohabitating thanks to Burt and Carole. And a lot of people are saying that Karofsky has done things that are entirely irredeemable, especially when it comes to his raging [and self-loathing] homophobia. I think it'll get worse before it gets better in his case, and most likely to the detriment of Kurt's wellbeing. But for the sake of seeing more of Max Adler's fantastic acting -- and for the sake of all those other kids who hate themselves so much because of their upbringing or whatever else that they pick on the people who in reality are a lot like them -- I hope Karofsky does get redeemed.THIS! Did everyone seem to forget that Puck used to beat people up? Like you said, he wanted to turn over a porta-potty with a paraplegic Artie inside? That he used to throw Kurt into dumpsters?

... why are Kurt/Karofsky shippers being looked at as if they have the plague?
Every fandom needs a villain. I think Kurt/Karofsky 'shippers have become those people who still 'shipped Buffy and Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer after the attempted rape and ensuing Pavlovian controversy at the end of season 6 to the rest of the Glee fandom. It's sort of a way of saying, "Well, okay, [pairing X] has its flaws, but it's nowhere near as bad as [pairing Y]!"
And I hope you don't mind, but I posted that quote on my Tumblr with a link back to this post and some commentary of my own.
Not at all! I thought your comments were great. :)
[Edited because LJ won't let me hide that spoiler, so whatevs. And also because I fail at punctuation.]
I keep butting in on comments here, hope you don't mind... but yeah, I mentioned this somewhere else: I think the reason Karofsky is seen as a worse bully is simply because he's the bully when the show finally takes the issue seriously. When Puck and Finn, and also Quinn (and probably Santana and Brittany) were the bullies, it was treated as a running gag. This season they have approached it from a different angle, showing that it actually affects the characters in deeper ways than just ruining their outfits (Kurt mainly) and that makes Karofsky seem worse. Puck was never any better than Karofsky, but because he already dated one of his victims (Rachel, and Mercedes was probably at some point a victim of his pranks) and is now being buddies with another (Artie), everything is forgiven. Though I did find it slightly concerning that Artie automatically assumed Puck was going to throw him down the stairs in 2x06, isn't he supposed to have stopped that some time ago now? Why would Artie so quickly jump to that conclusion? Quinn had her

I wouldn't want Kurt and Karofsky making out in the next episode, I don't want them dating while Karofsky continues to bully him or for Karofsky to suddenly be all better over night, and I didn't think the wink was cute and a sign of their True Love. Yes, it is twisted and disturbing and a volcano waiting to blow right now, I just see where it can all lead to. Because Karofsky had one episode with two scenes giving him a little more depth and suddenly he's the most interesting character on the show.
Just so you know, I ADORE all your comments! <3

It's good to know I'm not just a rambling idiot. XD
*grins* No, I swear, I read at least 4 comments of yours that made me think "Ok, I totally agree with this!". XD
I have a feeling Karofsky will reach the bottom next episode. And then hopefully face up to what he's doing before it's too late. I've got this feeling too... I read some spoilers around that didn't seem so bad... Then again, I also read some that made my skin crowl! ;) ...Can I ask you where do you usually look for spoilers on Glee? I still haven't found a site that reports "all" of them

But I think it says something about his nature that losing control in that moment meant kissing Kurt and not punching him. I've never thought of it in these terms, but that's totally true

To be honest, the only thing that made me come back for s2, was the fact that I love Kurt and Burt's relationship, and usually at least once an episode there's a performance that makes me smile

Kurt and Burt's relationship is one of the best thing of the series. There's so much love there, that I often find myself crying when I see them! ...As for the songs, they're amazing. Ok, I like some more than others but they all certainly have incredible voices

I line in Norway, so it's not talked about here either. Only one I know who even watches the new episodes like me is my sister, and I don't think she has even considered it being sexual assault. But I have seen enough stuff online. It's mostly fandom getting worked up about it I think. But with so many ways of contacting the cast and writers it wouldn't surprise me if they've caught on. I had a discussion with someone about the issue (as a more general view, not about the kiss itself as she hadn't seen it), and she pointed out that whether or not something is sexual assault is decided by the victim's experience of it. I don't think Kurt thinks of it that way. Obviously he's upset over his first kiss being stolen, and Karofsky's behaviour afterwards hasn't done much to help. But when Kurt has spoken to him he has been trying to be understanding, I think Kurt understands that Karofsky wasn't trying or planning to force him into anything, he just lost control. I don't know, I do my best to stay far away from them. :p
Whoa, you guys had quite the discussion (she says, having been mostly absent from the internet for two days)! You should totally turn it into like, a collaborative meta post. :D Love all your thoughts.
