AKA OH GOD WHAT AM I DOING TYPING THIS AT UNGODLY HOURS IN THE MORNING.
A-Anyway just like what I said in the PM, this is the report that Armstrong will send over to Roy! Feel free to look over it for inaccuracies and errors and stuff you don't want me to say out now. And yeah I like to tl;dr far too much. B|
As requested by Colonel Mustang, here is my report on the events of the ‘Promised Day’ as it happened in my time and the version of Amestris that majority of us are familiar with. Just to add in more background information so that the Colonel can understand better, I will be using his earlier report here as a reference and flesh out the differences between the two versions of Amestris that we know. However, some of the things I heard are second-hand at best, and so they may not be entirely accurate. I apologize in advance if that is the case.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Homunculi. As explained to me, they are the beings that are part of the one that is called ‘Father’, of who I will explain further down in proper detail. Each of the homunculus are said to be the embodiment of one of the deadly sins of men which the ‘Father’ has gotten rid of, and at their cores are the Philosopher’s Stone which grant them their ‘lives’ and their powers. Just as the Colonel has said in his earlier report, our method of killing the Homunculus in our world is to simply exhaust them of all the lives they possess-which in turn will destroy the Philosopher’s Stone that serves as their core of power. I have noted that the seven Homunculi between the two Amestris are different, so I will note down the identity of the seven that I am familiar with:
- Pride, known as the First Homunculus (according to Lieutenant Hawkeye’s account). Under the guise of Selim Bradley, he has always been with the government heads ever since the formation of Amestris. He was defeated by Edward Elric in the events of the ‘Promised Day’, though he survived-but was reduced to his true form. Eventually Ms. Bradley adopted him, despite protests. It has only been a while for me, but there have been no incidents regarding this arrangement thus far.
- Wrath, noted to be a ‘human-based homunculus’ created by ‘Father’ in order to head Amestris as the Fuhrer president King Bradley (told to me by the Colonel himself from my own version of Amestris). I have been told that unlike the other homunculus he does not have the ability to regenerate, though he possesses the ‘Ultimate Eye’ much like his counterpart in the other Amestris. According to my elder sister it was the combined efforts of Capatin Buccaneer and a man from Xing who dealt a fatal blow to him, and later on it was Scar who properly finished him off.
- Lust, the first homunculus who was defeated by the version of the Colonel back in the Amestris I reside in. I do not have many details regarding this incident, unfortunately.
- Gluttony, another homunculus which I am not familiar with. I am not clear as to the details on how he perished, though I have heard that Pride was somehow involved in this.
- Envy, the homunculus who was responsible for the death of Brigadier General Hughes. Possesses the ability to transform into an exact replica of any individual, and I was told that his true form was something quite monstrous. Edward Elric has told me that this homunculus had apparently committed suicide, though I do not know much beyond that.
- Sloth, the homunculus who was in charge of digging an underground tunnel around all of Amestris for the activation of the Nationwide Transmutation Circle. I fought with it personally along with my sister during the ‘Promised Day’, and with the additional aid of Miss Izumi Curtis and her husband later we managed to defeat it.
- Greed, otherwise better known as the one who inhibited the body of the twelfth prince (and current king) of Xing, His Majesty Ling Yao. There were two versions of Greed-the one back in Dublith, and then later the one who inhibited the body of the prince through injecting the Philosopher’s Stone into his body. Unlike the Fuhrer however, he had the ability to regenerate, and retained his old abilities (called the ‘Ultimate Shield’) as well; I do not know much about the Philosopher’s Stone aside from the fundamental basics, so my thoughts about this issue is shaky at best. He was the last homunculus to perish in the ‘Promised Day’, by sacrificing himself to weaken ‘Father’ so that he could be defeated once and for all.
‘Father’ and Hohenheim. The main reason why I put them together is that because the connection between them is stronger than anyone could have expected. To what I have been told by the Elric Brothers, Hohenheim is in reality the sole survivor of the tradgey that struck Xerxes back in history-the people of that entire nation perished due to ‘Father’ (then known as Homunculus) tricking the king and using the lives of the whole nation to turn them into one Philosopher’s Stone, separated into two. One of them was bonded into the soul of the Hohenheim himself, effectively turning him into a Philosopher’s Stone himself; the other was taken by ‘Father’ for his own reasons or another.
‘Father’ was attempting to do the same thing once again, only this time on a grander scale-and to that effect, he created Amestris for that very reason, having always taken charge from the shadows. With a population that boasted of fifty million, it would be a lot of energy and power indeed-enough to ‘surpass God’, as I quote. This plan was, however, foiled and ended in the events of the ‘Promised Day’.
‘Promised Day’. For a good while the exact indication of this phrase was unknown, but when the day itself came then the meaning behind this phrase was understood-the ‘Promised Day’ was the day of a solar eclipse. The union of the moon and the sun has long been regarded as the symbol of a ‘Perfect Being’ in Alchemy, and that was exactly what ‘Father’ had been aiming for.
Human Sacrifices. The greatest part in ‘Father’s plans, the opening of the Gate in order to devour ‘God’ required an immense amount of energy-and he got that through the selection of five ‘Human Sacrifices’; humans who have open the ‘Gate of Truth’ via Human Transmutation and came back from it alive. Because of the immense will that is needed to accomplish this, such people are few and rare (the State Alchemist movement was created in a bid to find these sacrifices). ‘Father’ required five of them (as per the five points in a Human Transmutation circle, as I have been informed), and the identity of the five will be listed below:
- Edward Elric, the Fullmetal Alchemist. Opened the Gate of Truth when he attempted to transmute his mother along with his younger brother. Lost a leg due to this, and later his arm in the process of binding his brother’s soul to a suit of armor.
- Alphonse Elric, younger brother of the Fullmetal Alchemist. Opened the Gate of Truth with his brother in the same incident, though he could not recall the memories until later. Lost his entire body due to the rebound of Human Transmutation, but had his soul affixed to a suit of armor by his brother.
- Van Hohenheim, father of the Elric Brothers. Had his own Gate of Truth opened via the interference ‘Father’ in the tragedy that ruined Xerxes.
- Izumi Curtis, teacher of the Elric Brothers. Opened the Gate of Truth when she attempted to revive her unborn child. She lost some organs as a result.
- Colonel Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist and superior of the Fullmetal Alchemist. As the four stated earlier above were the only sacrifices that were available by the time of the ‘Promised Day’, and so he was forced to be the fifth sacrifice after the Homunculus Pride and Wrath forcibly had him open the gate against his will. He lost his eyesight as a result due of this, but later had it restored due to Dr. Marcoh and the last Philosopher’s Stone which was still around.
If there is anything else you wish for me to add on, explain or elaborate, I will try my best to do so.
THE ‘PROMISED DAY’
I will try and list them out in chronological format, though most of my information is once again second-hand-I apologize in advance for the gaps that may come in this timeline.
- The night before the day itself, the Elric Brothers along with their father (and Greed) had a battle with Pride and Gluttony-Alphonse Elric used himself as bait in order to trap Pride, which succeeded until the Crimson Alchemist came later in the day; I will touch on that later.
- Major Miles and Lt. General Grumman held their annual joint exercises in the East, to which the Fuhrer President himself attended. They leaked their plans of the exercise being a diversion, and King Bradley instantly tried to make his way back to Central; however the trap was laid, and the train which he had been on was bombed. The President was reported as missing after.
- The sudden disappearance of the President threw the military into chaos, and the Colonel himself took this chance to stage a rebel operation against the higher-ups of the military; he started by first taking Ms. Bradley as a hostage.
- Edward Elric and his father proceeded to head into the underground of Central in order to locate ‘Father’ and put a stop to his plans; meanwhile as stated earlier, Crimson Alchemist Zolf J. Kimbley came to where Pride was trapped and freed him along with Alphonse Elric. I am not sure what happened here, but Alphonse Elric managed to escape in the battle and headed towards Central with the intention to help in the fight against ‘Father’ as well.
- ‘Father’ took control of the higher-ups while Bradley was gone, though he soon left due to the disturbance happening underground. My sister-Major General Olivia Mira Armstrong-started to assume control on her own once the chance came, going against the rest as the troops of Briggs came into Central through a secret passage from the now-vacated Armstrong Estate.
- The Colonel brought Ms. Bradley to the station for Radio Captial, leaving her there in the safety of his men while he headed out once more to continue in the battle. Through her words, the public was swayed to the belief that the Colonel was staging a rebellion against the corrupt officials of Central Headquarters.
- Around this time, I believe it was when the battle against Envy started-I do not know much about this event, but in the end Envy apparently killed itself. Back aboveground, I was on my way to aid my elder sister, and ended up getting into a battle against the Homunculus Sloth. Miss Izumi Curtis and her husband came to help later, once the central command room was secure. With their aid, we managed to defeat Sloth and then later obtained important information about ‘Father’ and everything else from one of the captured higher-ups.
- The Fuhrer President returned, causing the once demoralized Central troops to fight back. The Briggs soldiers defending the front gate were quickly overwhelmed, but Greed came to join the fray in time and went against the President. In the battle Captain Buccaneer and Fu-the man from Xing, one of the retainers to His Majesty Ling Yao-both perished, but succeeded in dealing a fatal blow to King Bradley. Later on Greed destroyed the ‘Ultimate Eye’, and the President escaped by dropping into the moat and going through the sewers.
- Greed later helped in successfully defending the front gate; at this time, the company of Edward Elric with the Colonel had a battle of their own.
- A alchemic circle was activated during this time, its intended purpose being to draw in the three confirmed sacrifices to where ‘Father’ awaited them-Hohenhiem was already with ‘Father’ by then, and the Colonel had not been made into a sacrifice just yet.
- The Fuhrer President and his son showed up here, and forced the Colonel to open the gate-with all five sacrifices gathered, ‘Father’ then activated the Nationwide Transmutation Circle and used the lives of all of Amestris to accomplish his plan. The only people unaffected by this transmutation were the ones in the ‘centre’ of the circle-specifically, the ones underground Central such as myself.
- Hohenheim had been anticipating this for years, and so had developed a counter for this event-with his own transmutation circle to counter the effects of the Nationwide Transmutation Circle, all the souls of the people in Amestris were returned to their respective bodies, and ‘Father’ was suddenly forced on edge. In addition, later Scar activated the Alkahestry circle that belonged to his brother so as to correct the alchemy that Amestris had been using.
- Pushed on to the edge, ‘Father’ escaped to the surface in order to try and replenish his Stone. Edward Elric stayed underground in order to finish up Pride. The rest of us all followed to aboveground, and the final battle took place; though not before ‘Father’ showing his strength by blasting half of Central Headquarters flat and exhausting almost all of Hohenhiem’s strength in the process. Alphonse Elric himself had been caught in the blast, but just barely managed to survive.
- All of us worked together and fought ‘Father’ in an attempt to make him exhaust the energy of his Philosopher’s Stone, which worked-but he pushed all of us back and trapped Edward Elric, who was unable to escape because his automail arm was destroyed. In order to save his brother, Alphonse Elric sacrificed himself to return his brother’s arm.
- With both of his arms back, Edward Elric counterattacked and pushed ‘Father’ onto his last edge-in desperation, he then went for Greed and attempted to absorb his Philosopher’s Stone. Greed separated himself from Ling in order to save him, and the proceeded to use his power in order to turn ‘Father’s body into charcoal before being destroyed by ‘Father’.
- With the opening that Greed had given him, Edward Elric destroyed the Stone within ‘Father’ and finished him once and for all, finally putting an end to everything.
- In order to bring back his brother wholly and fully, Edward Elric gave up his own powers of Alchemy by using his own Gate of Truth as the price-and he succeeded.
AFTERMATH
Elric Brothers, Hohenheim. Due to Edward Elric giving up his Gate of Truth and with it his ability to perform Alchemy, he relinquished his title as the ‘Fullmetal Alchemist’ and returned to Resembool with his brother once they had properly recovered. Hohenheim himself finally passed away a bit after the whole event.
Homunculus Pride. While reduced back to his true form, the survived and was returned to Ms. Bradley, who decided to raise him as her own son despite protests. I have been told that he grows quickly, though nothing has really been said about him just yet.
Official Story. The public was told that the higher-ups were responsible for trying to ‘perform a alchemic experiment at the cost of human lives’ and ‘rebelled against the President’; it would be reported that King Bradley and his son both lost their lives during this rebellion. The Colonel himself gained recognition amongst the people for his efforts for rebelling against the corrupt officials.
The Colonel. Due to being forced to open the Gate of Truth, the Colonel lost his vision in both his eyes-however as stated earlier, Dr. Marcoh came and restored it with the last Philosopher’s Stone that still existed in Amestris. Eventually he returned to the East to work in helping the Ishvals return to their land and working with His Majesty Ling Yao to establish trade routes with Xing.
Scar. He was taken care of by my sister and officially declared as dead; however he joined Major Miles in aiding the revival of the Ishvalan people and culture.
Succession. The position of Fuhrer President eventually went to Lt. General Grumman after some debate, and he keeps a fine eye on the nation to ensure that nothing like the ‘Promised Day’ ever happens again.
Once again, should there be anything you wish for me to add on and/or explain, I will be glad to do so to the best of my abilities.
