A bit of beauty to brighten a grey day

Well, as my laptop and internet connection have both broken been temporarily hindered this last week, I have been unable to get on with some important tasks. This has been very frustrating and it looks as though this week will be frustrating too...

So to help carry us through this grey monday, here's the exceptionally bonnie Madame Bink in a snakeskin green silk taffeta overbust, with quilted gussets and exterior casings (CREDITS: Sean Elliott Photography and SJE Make-up)

This piece had quite minimal seaming given the very dramatic cinch (and her super curvy natural shape), which has worked well, though there were compromises to be made. It's important to me to reflect many levels of cinch in my portfolio, since working around the individual's figure and aesthetic preferences is what interests me most, and the further I go the more I learn about the subtleties of the body.

Anyway, for one of my new workshops I'm thinking of covering creative pattering at which we'd probably discuss how different figures influence seaming and pattern choices. I'm thinking that you could each bring your own toiles and we'd create new, unusual patterns from them. Or perhaps taking an existing sparklewren corset and explaining its anatomy and techniques. I've got so many things that I'd love to talk with you all about in real life, it's an exciting prospect!

I do hope plenty of you will be attending the Symingtons trip in August, I know that crikeyaphrodite and many others will be there, so well worth going for both the antiques and the social aspect. It's always so nice to talk "corset" in real life :-)
Also, have I mentioned that I have major hair envy with Bink? So long and lovely... Still, mine's only a few inches from my waist now, hurrah!

There, the day seems less grey now :-)
