This week has mostly been about waiting for delayed supplies. Very frustrating. But it has also been about patterns/toiles for clients and even one for myself. The silk damask that my lovely Breezer gifted me (late birthday/Christmas present, what a kind girl!) is on its way, so this week I patterned and fit a regular overbust toile for it. I was hoping the silk would arrive in time for me to get the corset made next week (in time for TORM at the weekend), but I'm not convinced it's going to. So I also used my toile to cut down an alternative design for myself... all corded gussets, diagonal seams and exterior casings, scrumptious.
Made an illustration (below), though I may change a couple of details.
Also, it's a midbust really, not an overbust.
This piece will be in a black metallic silk/cotton that I have on its way (assuming that it arrives in time instead of the damask). I've already started the strength layer. I'm toying with the idea of something else sparkly or shiny to decorate (the copper piece that this design is based on has flossing, so I already feel that "super-shiny plus detail" can work), but probably won't have time. I'd like decoration though, because I'm not usually an all black wearing kind of girl... When I wear black, it's usually for a night out and therefore pretty sparkly. Maybe I can embellish it later on. Or maybe I should use a different colour entirely, I'm not 100% decided.
Also, through my recent portfolio work I hit upon some major refinements and improvements to these corded/casings pieces. The construction previously required a loose lining for neatness and comfort, but now that can be left off and the seams are even stronger. I'll probably leave this piece without a loose lining, to save time and maybe show you the innards which are super smooth.
