A nice couple of days. Last night was chocolate brownies, chianti and a sci fi movie, and today was an early start to the weekend listening to music and drawing. Though the drawing part almost didn't happen, I have no decent paper in the house. Used some old gift card blanks in the end. Almost had to use the inside of cereal boxes, like when I was a child!
I realised when talking to my boyfriend that I haven't picked up anything more exciting than an HB pencil in about 3 or 4 years (when I drew a nesting lapwing for his father), so it was lovely to break out the Fs and 3Bs again.
First, my namesake, a wren. Based on a photograph I found which doesn't show the feet. I'm no good at doing stuff from memory, so this wren has no feet. Think I'll gift this to my mama if she wants it. I hand-quilted wrens onto a corset recently (only outlines of course), which hopefully I'll be able to show you all soon.
Hmm... on the scan you can really see the crease in the card blank. And really, I should have stopped drawing once the sun set, as drawing in unnatural light just doesn't work for me. But I only really do it for fun and I have this thing about stopping and starting drawings... It makes me unhappy, like I lose concentration or something. Returning to a drawing that's unfinished makes it seem like work, whereas it's just a way of being peaceful for me. So if I stop a drawing before it's finished, I'll never finish it. Even so, there are things I might change to this one, soften parts with a putty rubber maybe.
Other potential subjects include finches, rooks, woodpeckers, and nuthatches. Wanted to do birds that we see frequently back in Northumberland. Considered going a bit exotic and doing a peacock, bird of paradise or love bird, but they're more about colour really. Could draw some horses. Horses and birds, they're the two things I always end up drawing.
