National Day Family Gathering

Happy Birthday Singapore!

Today marked Singapore's 44th birthday as well as our first family gathering at Ah Gong's new house at Tampines.
The new house reminded me alot of how the old house used to be before it got converted into a 5-rm flat, just that it felt slightly smaller.
It was a warm, festive atmosphere that was a rarity for the past year.
Almost everyone was there. It felt nice, really.
The food were reminiscent of the spread Ahma used to cook, with the usual spread of beehoon, curry, handmade meat balls, fried prawns and chicken soup and the new addition of a few dishes. Not to forget, there was agar agar and home made chin chow too. Though certain dishes didn't taste exactly like how ahma used to cook it, I am thankful nevertheless. They tasted close enough.
At the same time, I am glaringly reminded of how fast time flew by.
It's been nearly a year since Ah ma left us. Though life goes on, I sorely missed the presence of Ah ma during the gathering.

And so, here's a tribute to the greatest ah ma in the world:

Though you may have left us, you are fondly remembered in our hearts,
as the feisty and loud matriarch of the family,
as the wonderful chef of all home cooked delights,
and as a loving ahma to us all.
and the family will keep going on, with combined efforts, the family will stay together.

I love you Ah Ma.
