To answer any questions about my accident:
The accident was the fault of the other driver, so her insurance will be paying for everything.
We found out yesterday that my car is in fact totaled. It's over $10,000 worth of damages. My car looks like hell- I was really not surprised to hear this news.
We are going to start settlement on the amount of money we are going to get for my car next week. We looked up the blue book value for my car- if you were to buy it now (well.. before the accident lol) and in good condition (which my car was) and the price for my car was between $13,000 and $14,000. We also looked up prices to buy my car from carmax (same year, same model, good condition) and their prices were in the same range- $13,000- $14,000. Carmax has really fair prices, and friends of my mom has used their prices to argue for more money for their car in their accident and the insurance company took the price. So, we are going to fight for $14,000 for my car.
In the accident, I wasn't seriously injured. But I do have bruises on my chest and stomach, and basically I'm just in a lot of pain and very sore. We are concerned because when I went to the hospital- they didn't do X-rays... and yesterday and today, it's been really hurting me to take deep breaths and to cough. My aunt says that this could be a sign of fractured/broken ribs, so I'm going to get X-rays done.
The insurance company is going to give me money for my doctor's bills, plus extra money because of the pain I am in, and money for missing work. We haven't settled on this amount yet either, we're going to wait and see if I do have any fractured/broken ribs because if I do- that may mean I could miss several weeks of work and they would need to give me money to compensate for that.
Eventhough this is a horrible week for this accident to happen (My Dad's mother is in the hospital- most likely in her final days and I'm taking my GRE tomorrow which is stressful) atleast it seems that we will be able to get enough money to buy me a brand new car.
Hopefully things will start looking up.
