I called the Social Security office today to ask why they couldn't confirm my citizenship, since the oh so smart FAFSA people said it was Homeland Security that wouldn't confirm, and wouldn't tell me why. The very nice gentleman I reached after a 10 minute hold told me the reason is that apparently, when you get your citizenship, you're supposed

to the social security office in person, so they can update your file
