The signs are starting to show

The ferns are turning yellow and the color is fading from the Poplar leaves.  Kids are in schoo again and it's raining nuts in the woods.  The Holly trees have berries this year and night is coming earlier.  The signs are beginning to show that fall is well on its way.
I've always liked autumn.  In addition to the colors, the smell of burning leaves summons back images of Friday night football games, Halloween (the way it used to be) carnivals and releif from the summer heat.  When I was young, it meant county fairs and warm blankets, hay rides and the kinds of small things that made adolescence fun.  And of course there was the ever present anticipation of the holiday season.
I guess that the only time of year I never really liked was winter.  Not because it was cold, but because there really was nothing going on that was interesting.  Winter was always the same old routine day after day.  I never liked it....that is until I moved someplace where we get snow.
Now the season I dislike the most is summer.  Working in the hot sun, having to run the air conditioner or else sleep in sweat and bugs, bugs and more bugs makes summer a real drag.
