Movie Review: Possession

Jan 21, 2013 13:03

This movie followed along the general plot of Exorcist except with a Jewis twist.  A mysterious box which we later find out houses the spirit of a demon, is sold at a yard sale and taken home by a tweenaged girl.  Over a few days and weeks the girl's personality changes and she becomes more obsessive and even violently protective of the box.  Then at one point she becomes fully posessed by the demon in the box.
Her dad knows something is wrong and vainly tries to sort the problems out using the normal methodology but at some point his divorced wife decides to put a restraining order on him to keep him away from his daughter.
Not to be put off, the dad recognizes the writing on the box to be Hebrew and asks a rabbi to look at it.  This is when he discovers that the box was a special prison to keep a demon trapped but that the demon is now loose and has his daughter.  The young rabbi agrees to help the dad free his daughter.
As stated this story had a lot of things in common with The Exorcist.  There was, however, enough differences that you can't call it a remake.
A decent movie if you like this kind of thing.  Not worth spending premium price on a ticket or over priced snacks, but a good rental to watch at home.
