It happened last Friday. After finishing some work down in ATL, Jan and I were on our way back home. We were driving along on I-85 when I noticed that I was unable to speed up to get around a slower vehicle. I pressed the accelerator to the floor with no change in speed.
Thinking that maybe something had gone wrong with the transmission, I pressed the clutch to downshift and watched the tachometer drop to zero. The engine was dead. So we drifted to a stop at the bottom of the off ramp in the middle of an intersection.
We managed to push the Jeep out of traffic but was unable to get it to re-start.
The culprit was a dead fuel pump. $372 later and the Jeep was back up and running again. But I'm not really too upset about that. The Jeep has been reliable and solid for all these years. The only thing that bugged me was of all the places to crap out, why did it have to be on the freeway in downtown ATL?
