I really enjoy this Picasso painting. It's called Guernica, and it was painted after an event in the Spanish Civil War. The Germans and Italians that aided in the war decided to test out their weapons, so they bombed the city of Guernica in northern Spain. This doesn't sound so bad during wartime, except for the fact that Guernica was a small, civilian city that had nothing to do with the war, and 75% of the city was destroyed in the bombings. I just find it interesting, and once you learn what the images in the painting mean, it's pretty sweet. Just thought I'd switch things up a little bit.
So I'm writing another pre-departure post today, because tonight I'm leaving for Paris. I'm excited to go and see another country, and I really enjoy traveling (just not missing flights all the time). I'm pretty excited about seeing the Eiffel Tower and such, and I enjoy adding another country to my list of travels.
Other than that, really nothing has been going on in Spain as of late. This week we went out twice and partied (last night was lame) and that's about it. Class is alright, but there's a lot of work that's all due right at the end (basically next week) so I'm stressing over finishing everything, but it's ok. Also, my beloved Pap Dad (abuelo) is leaving today. Fina's dad has stayed with us since my second day here, and now he's going to Barcelona to live with his other daughter for a few months. He's the man and he has regaled me with so many stories of the Civil War and his life. Sometimes he's impossible to understand, and sometimes he wears on me with telling me the same thing over and over, but he's 93, so it's ok. He's the man and I'm so glad I met him, and it will def. be sad when I return from France and he's not here.
Speaking of returns, I will be returning to the US in 3 weeks. I'm excited to get home and resume my life, but I am going to miss Spain like no other. It's been a good time, and I can't quite put into words yet what it has really meant/done for me. Hopefully someday I'll be able to say just what it has meant, but I might never be able to do that. This leads me to the song of the day, which is appropriate...

"3x5"
I'm writing you to
Catch you up on places Ive been
You held this letter
Probably got excited, but theres nothing else inside it
Didn't have a camera by my side this time
Hoping I would see the world with both my eyes
Maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm
In the mood to lose my way with words
Today skies are painted colors of a cowboys cliche
And strange how clouds that look like mountains in the sky
Are next to mountains anyway
Didn't have a camera by my side this time
Hoping I would see the world with both my eyes
Maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm in the mood to lose my way
But let me say
You should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes
It brought me back to life
You'll be with me next time I go outside
Just no more 3x5s
Guess you had to be there
Guess you had to be with me
Today I finally overcame
Tryin' to fit the world inside a picture frame
Maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm in the mood to
Lose my way but let me say
You should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes
It brought me back to life
You'll be with me next time I go outside
No more 3x5s
Just no more 3x5s
Later Days! I'll post about my France trip when I return.
