A reggeaton song was playing as Nando casually drove out of the parking lot and into the highway. The song’s rhythm and beat started to get stronger and faster, he immediately stepped on the gas with the smile of a mischievous school boy spreading on his face. The purring of the engine could be heard rising to a maximum speed, he whizzed passed a few cars and started to decelerate, but never going under 120. A smile crept up on my face; it was the first time I sat in a car where he was driving. He was going so fast! It was exhilarating, and it felt like I was in a car with Dean.
“Too fast,” he turned his head towards me as I shook mine, “Roxanna Weenchesterr?” my mood changed while a big smirk could be seen on his face.
“See that’s the problem with you Spaniards, you can’t get my name right!” he laughed, “That’s why I’m using another name.” I stated proudly. He raised an eyebrow. “Casillas.”
“What?? Ahahahahah, you’re kidding…right?” I shook my head, “and how would you be a Casillas? Just because you’re living with him doesn’t change your name.”
“Well…our dad’s are…were,” I corrected myself, “brothers, and so when my dad was trying to get a job as a kid in America, no one pronounced it right, so he went with his mother’s name. So technically, I’m a Casillas!” I smiled brightly.
“So you’re changing your name just like that?”
“No! That’s my name in my Spanish passport!”
“But…didn’t you say you were Persian? Which confuses me, how are you related to John and Abigail?”
“Well...yea…ok my mom is Persian, my dad is Spanish and British, and his mom is Abi’s aunt, through her mother...get it?” the car jerked to a stop.
“Sure” he was still puzzled, “hurry up and get your stuff fast!” he pushed me out.
“Alright, chill.”
I unlocked the door and put the big suitcases outside for Nando to put them in the car. Then I dashed towards my room. I stuffed what ever was on my bed in the bag, and looked around for a sweater. Right I’ll ask Nando for one. I changed my top and left Abi’s on my bed. I looked around my room, knowing it was the last time, I stood there for a second or two till a loud honk came from outside. Boys got to be kidding me!
“Abi! John!” I yelled to too see if they were home, no one answered. There was a letter on the side table in front of the door. Another honk came from outside. “Ugh!” I grabbed the note and closed the door behind me. “What’s the rush?? Or plane isn’t due for… 3 hours.” He multi tasked as he stepped on the pedal and looked at his watch.
“Si, but Pepe made a bet that we would get there after all of them and be late like usual!”
“No!” I thought for a second, “Well we’ll just have to show them! Rapido come on vamos!!” I slapped the dashboard a couple of times; he laughed and went even faster.
10 minutes left. We went to Nando’s place and got out as fast as possible.
“Oh! By the way, do you have like a sweater or something I can borrow?”
“I have my Liverpool sweater, which should do.” He looked over.
“Awesome, cause I’m gonna get cold on the plane, and I forgot to bring a sweater.” I was only wearing a black top with a pair jeans and flip-flops. I was going to change into something a little more formal before we went to the Mercer’s, but they were somewhere in the bottom of my carry on.
“OH!!” A thought came to mind, “I forgot to ask, wanna watch Lord of the Rings on the plane??” he couldn’t resist saying no, I mean he was more of a fanatic then I was!
“Of course!!” he exhaled; “you don’t seem to know me at all!” he tsked and chuckled quickly after. “Ah, we’re here!” he smiled to himself, “45 minutes, not bad!”
We got out of the car, each of us taking care of something. Nando started to take the luggage out of the back with the help of a valet, while I went to get two carts. Everything was packed and we dashed into the airport and went towards our gate. He started to look around the seats frantically.
“Yes! Their not here! We win! HAH!” we both started to laugh and gave each other high-fives, until the ringing of my phone interrupted us. Unknown Number.
“Hello?” I answered slowly.
“Hola Nina!” Pepe answered from the other line, I quickly put it on speaker so Nando could here.
“AHA PEPE! We beat you here!" I did a little victory dance, "See we prefer to be late to…” I looked at Nando, “many things.”
“Ahhh, but you are not victorious!” his thick laugh was heard followed by others.
“What?!” Nando asked
“Look to your left,” I turned, “no more,” I turned fully around a couple of times, looking like an idiot.
“There.” Nando pointed out and started to move his cart towards where he gazed.
“Oh.” there they were …all laughing, except for Xabi, he just had a smile across his face. I started to follow Nando and saw Xabi turn around and indulge himself in his newspaper.
I sat in the empty seat between Xabi and Sean, and Fernando was across form me in between Alvaro and Pepe.
Pepe put his arm behind Nando’s seat and faced him. “Typical, El Nino and La Nina late, again!” he laughed and withdrew his hand form the chair as Alvaro replied in spanish and they both laughed even harder.
“Shut up!” I joked, and sulked into my chair. Nando put his carry on in between his feet, opened it and handed me his sweater. “Thank you!” I folded it on my lap.
“So that’s what you’re planning?” Xabi asked sounding concerned.
“Yeah.” I answered. For the past few minutes Xabi was wondering how I was going to get along with speaking and understanding Spanish fluently. I told him that I would just get help from the team. He advised me to do otherwise.
“It isn't that we are not going to help you, but it's better if you did a course while you’re in Spain. I know it would be only 2 weeks, but I know a good place I’ll call them when we get there. And what are you going to do bout your university classes?”
“Oh…right…well that would be awesome, thanks.” I smiled, “and I’ll be fine for university cause all my classes are in English except for Spanish course.” I pointed out and he nodded. Sean leaned into me and went up to my ear.
“Hey, it’s Drama Queen,” he whispered, and I looked at where his gaze was. There was Leila pushing the cart, “with Leila, and Nani.” Followed by Christiano and Nani, each pushing their own carts.
I rolled my eyes at the site of him, surrounded by adoring fans, but smiled widely at Leila, returning her greeting.
