happy easter

It was a sunny 75°F here today, and I spent the afternoon transforming some discarded plastic food crates into planters. I lined 'em with cardboard (also discarded); we'll see how they hold up with multiple waterings. It's certainly far cheaper than buying planters, and they would've been thrown out anyway, so I figure it's a worthy experiment.

Kathy made hot cross buns for breakfast this morning, and scrambled eggs, and fruit salad. (We don't normally have communal breakfasts, here, so this was a super special treat.) And, Kathy's daughter had snuck some Easter candies into her suitcase just before she left, so we also had tiny, foil-wrapped chocolate eggs to enjoy, too!

Then for dinner Kathy and Patrick collaborated on a feast: leg of lamb, and aubergine casserole, and potatoes, and carrots, and broccoli, and red wine, and even homemade chocolate pudding! It was delicious, even if there was no way we could finish off the lamb in one sitting. Leftovers! Leg of lamb stew! And sandwiches? I don't know what one does with a huge hunk of lamb, bone included. It's currently chilling in our fridge, wrapped in many layers of cellophane. Here's a hint: the bone will not fit int any stewpot we currently have. This is a whole darn leg we're talking about here! ...Rest in peace, little lamb spirit.

(Anyone else think it's kinda weird that on Easter Christian celebrate the resurrection of JC, called the Lamb of God, by eating leg of lamb? I don't think this is what they mean when they talk about the transubstantiation of the body of Christ...)

...

Here is a thought-provoking essay on Easter, from a progressive Christian perspective. I think he could use a good editor to make his points a bit clearer, but I found it interesting all the same:

A Kinder, Gentler, More Grown-Up Easter
