Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays!
Whatever you celebrate (or even if you don't celebrate at all), I hope you are all having a lovely holiday. ♥
Aside from the crummy weather (ugh, rain), I've had a decent Christmas. I'm not too happy about having come down with something right before I have to work tomorrow morning at 5:45am (OH BOXING DAY YOU ARE GOING TO BE STRESSFUL), but I'll just putter on. We also have a family gathering later tomorrow. I'm going to be waaaaaaaaaaaaacky
I'm going to try to remember to do a "year in review" post of some sort, possibly with pictures, because I've been so lousy at updating LiveJournal this year. I'd also like to do a "top albums of 2009" post, but who knows if I'll get around to it? I am the best at procrastination.
I have things to say about the first part of the Doctor Who RTD/Tenth Doctor finale, but since it's only just aired, I'm putting those things behind this LJ-cut.
The episode started off well, but diminished into another crackfest of Russell T. Davies basically shouting "I'M SO BRILLIANT LOOK AT MY WRITING OH LOOK HOW MANY THERE ARE OF THE MASTER". When everyone on earth was turning into the Master, it seemed to drag for an awkward amount of time - as in, I actually uttered aloud, "Yes, we get it, HE'S EVERYONE". I adore John Simm as much as the next Life On Mars and Doctor Who fanlady, but that was just ridiculous.
Timothy Dalton was pretty cool, but then lol why did we have to see his spittle outlined against a black background.
cupcakery suggested this and now I'm excited and I hope it's true - could the lady who kept contacting Wilf possibly be Romana? I hope so. Man, I am so excited for Time Lords and Time Ladies again. I hope RTD doesn't rewind that before the end of the next special. I want Steven Moffat to include them in the show again.
Ahhhhh I hope Wilf is okay! What is this ~*important role*~ that he has to play? The scene between him and the Doctor in the little cafe was pretty well-done. I teared-up a bit.
Where is Martha, by the way? All this was going on and Martha wasn't involved? Also, Mickey. These are two important and cool people who could be used. I know we've seen a lot of Martha, but logically, it would've made sense for the Doctor to try to find her too. Then again, he was in a hurry.
John Simm is a great actor and he is excellent as the Master, but it's a shame that he has to deal with RTD's overly dramatic finales. I've always enjoyed the Master in the classic series as a dick who just likes to mess things up for the Doctor. (see: The King's Demons, which I watched for the first time recently and lol what was even the point of it all)
I will miss David Tennant because he is amazing as the Doctor, but again, I'm tired of these "omgextravagant" finales and how Doctor Who has become more of a spectacle than an interesting television series.
Really, though, I think it started off well! It was the last ten minutes or so that have me worrying about the finale.
Time for bed.
