Life as a Hapless Romantic

For one week, recommend/share :
Day 1: a song
Day 2: a picture
-->Day 3: a book/ebook/fanfic
Day 4: a site
Day 5: a youtube clip
Day 6: a quote
Day 7: whatever tickles your fancy

You might recognize Paul Feig from the following: his brief stint as science teacher Mr. Pool during the first season of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, the creator of cult-classic Freaks and Geeks, or the director of several episodes of The Office and Arrested Development. Or, if you're ahead of the game, you may have already read his books. (rebel_waltz, I'm looking at you [she sent me his first book and is responsible for my love of his writing])

Whatever the case, Paul Feig is an extraordinarily hilarious person and a very brave soul. You'll see exactly what I mean if you read either of his autobiographical books, Kick Me or Superstud: Or How I Became A 24-Year-Old Virgin". An alarming amount of the geek content in Freaks and Geeks is autobiographical. And I'm just amazed that Mr. Feig is courageous enough to share these experiences with the entire world.

Superstud is a hilarious/awkward/honest/SO AWKWARD book. I laughed during it, and sadly, I also identified with Paul Feig on far too many occasions. As a geek, he had trouble finding love, and when he did find it, he often regretted it. There is (an embarrassing amount of) talk about his masturbation days, and how worried he was about what this habit would do to him. There is also a lot about how much he longed for romance and love, which is something that most people can identify with.

It's embarrassing, hilarious, and slightly heartwarming.

Let's just say that if you enjoy Freaks and Geeks, The Office, or Arrested Development, you'll probably enjoy this book. I'd also recommend Kick Me, but I wrote about Superstud because I finished reading it less than a week ago and it's fresh in my mind.

(you can read the first chapter here)

It's been pretty cold out recently!
