and on to the p.m.

Laundry accomplished. I could really spend the rest of the day doing fuck all, if that's what I felt like. Truth be told, it is what I feel like.

I should haul myself down to the mall and look for a new pair of black shoes. I've had my old Docs resoled three times on the same 30 dollar initial fee at the shoe hospital. I feel guilty about taking them back for another gratis round 4. One of my friends chides me on my honesty. Getting the shoes resoled is like reconnecting with an old friend. Initially it's great, everything goes back to the happy, bouncy place you were when you were dorming together at university, and then things start to fall off again, leaving you ultimately disappointed...your feet sore and your heart sick.

I'm sure the dorm type friends of mine would be thrilled to see they're playing a starring role in my shoe story.

But, back to the shoe challenge. I need to have lace up shoes. I can't wear loafers because the top part of my foot (instep?) is high and steep. All loafers are too tight and uncomfortable. If I even make it to the end of the day wearing them, I have bruises and indentations across the top of my foot that last for days.

Unfortunately, they don't seem to lace appropriate shoes for grownups. There are scads of appropriate pairs in the junior departments, as well in the old lady section. Pardon me, but I don't think I'm ready for Easy Spirits yet. I might be the only one who thinks I'm young and hip, but I will not be seen in these flat soled, squishy things just yet. There is no arch in the sole, for crying out loud! Just a flat sole between toe and heel!

My hatred of Mary Janes goes back to my childhood days, when I would be bought a pair every year from the birthday money my Nana would send me (even though I wanted a Barbie, or a jewelry box) and I would have to wear them until I outgrew them or they wore out. Those bastards never wear out. And, since my feet didn't grow much until I was in junior high, guess what I was still wearing! I even left them out in the driveway for my dad to drive over/snowblow/lawn mow, but they even held up through my chicanery!

I could go for another pair of Docs, but they don't seem to make the shiny ones anymore. All the ones I've seen in this place are the dull matte finish. Sigh.

In other news, I watched Forrest Gump on TV last night. I still haven't decided if I like that movie or not. I've seen it several times now, and still feel my heartstrings are tugged a bit too obviously and blatantly every time. I told myself last night I was only watching it for The Sinise, who looks good even if his legs have been digitally removed.
